Another, yet subsidiary, argument the author makes relates to Ancient Egypt’s new Pharaoh in 1370 B.C. Pharaoh Akhenaton discarded tradition and religion in favor of new ideas. “He had no time for the Egyptian religion, with its many gods and its mysterious rituals. ‘There is only one God,’ he taught his people, ‘and that is the Sun, through whose rays all is created and all sustained. To Him alone you must pray’ (Gombrich 15).” As you can see, the Pharaoh created a new belief amongst the people, by stating that there is only one god that exists, which is the Sun. Akhenaton says the Sun’s rays is what created everything on Earth and sustains it even now. The new Pharaoh also changed the style of architecture from a “severe, rigid, and solemn”…
King Minos became King of Crete with the help of Poseidon by receiving a bull from the sea. Poseidon ordered King Minos to sacrifice the gleaming white bull to him. However, King Minos, blinded by his own greed, breaks his promise and keeps the beautiful bull while offering a bull from his herd. As a punishment, Poseidon inspires Pasiphae’s strong lust for the bull, and she eventually schemes with Daedalus so that she can mate with the animal. The catastrophic result, the creation of a monstrous half bull-half human, emphasizes King Mino’s’ major folly; he lets his egoism take over, and consequently is labeled a “dangerous tyrant”(15). When Campbell…
King Kamehameha, known as one of the most successful Kings in the entire world. Even though many people around the world may not know of him at all, in Hawaii he was famous since he was born. Fulfilling the prophecy of moving the Naha stone and becoming the first ever King to conquer all islands, Kamehameha seemed to be a Goliath himself, definitely a big fish in a small pond. The theory Advantages of Disadvantages states that people can analyze their disadvantages and the find the correct methods to use against opponents (Gladwell 18). Upon King Kamehameha’s reign of success, it was not just given to him and he was not always the one to be favored, many times Kamehameha himself, in fact went into a battle as the underdog and used his disadvantages…
Most notable of David's great accomplishments is the battle between him and Goliath. Common held views of David in this battle described David as a weakling and incapable of defeating the giant Goliath. However, history has revealed this as a farce and that David was more a Goliath than Goliath. David's rise to power of the Israelite kingdom in 1000 BCE was shrouded in the timely deaths of a few people, which were in his way to the power of the throne. Another death ensued from his miss use of power to cover up his adulterous ways. Is David the hero of legend or is he just another power hungry monarch who gained his power through bloodshed to have ruled in ancient…

Everybody has a past. Some may have a wonderful past full of fun events and great deeds, and some may have a terrible past that haunts them every day of their life. Either way, everybody has an eventful history that is full of good memories, bad memories, regrets, and rejoices which we cannot hide from no matter how hard we try. Paul McCartney had a dream one night about his past. This dream caused him to realize how un-thoughtfully he had lived his life in the past and how he had not paid attention to anybody’s feelings but himself. From this dream he wrote the hit record “Yesterday” by The Beatles in which he portrayed his feelings for a girl that he had mistreated. Paul McCartney will always remember how he mistreated the girl, just as the rest of us will remember certain events in our pasts. In the novel, All the Kings Men by Robert Penn Warren, we see how the past affects the lives of many people. Some people try to ignore their…
According to Egyptian documents the Egyptians loved cats more than anything else. They honored them like we honor the president. The only people in ancient Egypt to have cats were the pharaohs. The pharaohs could not give, trade, or sell their cats to a foreigner. It would be a crime and was not tolerable. If you killed a cat you would be killed by other Egyptians. A roman soldier was once killed for accidently killing a cat. If you accidently kill a cat you would have to fake mourning to trick the other pharaohs into believing you didn't do it. If a cat were to die it would be turned into a mummy and would be buried on top of your coffin.…
