Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful.
Samuel Johnson
English author, critic, & lexicographer (1709 - 1784)

Samuel Johnson wrote this about education. He was comparing, ignorant but caring, ethical people as opposed to educated and brilliant but selfish and antisocial people, Johnson was stating that, it is dangerous to educate people without a moral compass, or as former President Teddy Roosevelt once said, "To educate a person in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society."

"It's like the gun issue. If you teach a person how to obtain and use a gun, but then you also teach and give example of good moral character, you get a safe gun owner/hunter. But if take the same person with a gun and he knows nothing of morality or respect for the power he has, and if he only learns only the value of money, you get an armed robber." Quote by L. Pache

I agree with Jordan Maxwell, I agree with him because the evidence for this quote can be found back then during the times of slavery. When slavery was an everyday thing, slaves were not allowed to learn and go to school, they were supposed to be deprived of these things that the white folks would get for a reason. The reason is that whenever someone becomes educated, they know what should and shouldn’t frighten them, the know the extent of one's ability, and once they began to teach themselves they became unstoppable and were able to receive independence for…

Education is something so sacred to some people but there are many people that take it for granted as well. "The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me" by Sherman Alexie and "Learning to Read and Write" by Fredrick Douglass, is similar in many ways. Both of these men were so eager to learn when in the meantime so many people that do have the opportunity are so clueless. People are so clueless that there were others, and still are, that wish they were in a position to easily learn. Both of these men were minorities and grew up many years ago where learning was unusual. In their situation it was also forbidden in some ways. Although it was tough for both of them, they both felt compelled to take learning into their own hands. Alexie refused to be like others and Douglass did as well. Both of these men went through an astonishing experience to discover what they did. Not only did they both learn that education is something pleasurable, but they learned that it was difficult.…

In 1787, Thomas Jefferson wrote “Above all things, I hope the education of the common people will be attended to; convinced that on their good sense we may rely with the most security for the preservation of a due degree of liberty” (Tanner & Tanner, 1995, p. 4). Jefferson theorized that indifference to education puts liberty and self-governance in peril. Education could provide each individual the opportunity to gain knowledge in order to promote self-governing and freedom (Tanner & Tanner, 1995).…

Integrity- Integrity is the basing of ones actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Depth of principles and adherence of each level to the next are key factors. One is said to have integrity to the extent that everything one does is derived from the same core set values. While each other and with the persons actions that determine the person’s integrity. Stephen L. Carter links integrity and honesty. There are three constraints discussed in this essay. First, integrity does require a degree of moral reflectiveness. Second, Integrity may cause conflict that is must be resolved. It does not necessarily produce or protect interpersonal harmony. Third, a person who has integrity can be trusted. Martin Luther King, Jr., an American minister, activist, and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.” King is pointing out that education is meant to challenge people in order to shape their minds and thoughts. The importance of education has been written about countless times. Many intelligent writers have written articles on higher education, such as Horace Mann’s “From Report of the Massachusetts Board of Education, 1848,” Jean Anyon’s “From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work,” and John Taylor Gatto’s “Against School.” In their writings they point out the flaws in the…
