Introduction
Today's world of business, shows us many uses as well as the advantages of Management Information Systems. A great example is that of the sporting industry, as the uses of information technology is very different comparatively of that of the retail industry. Businesses have differences in how they deal with the competitive forces, four generic strategies show how businesses can put them to use. These strategies are low-cost leadership, product differentiation, focus on market niche, and strengthening customer and supplier intimacy (Laudon & Laudon, 2010, pg. 96).

Staffing can be limited by as they can keep retail prices low, which is maintained via a low cost structure. The information system Kohl's implemented, provides an application they use for centralized buying, distribution, and advertising. In markets both small and large have seen success using this concept. Using a low cost structure, has afforded Kohl's the ability to price their merchandise competitively. Most of their vendors use the electronic data exchange, which in turn submits an electronic shipping notice, while providing an efficiency in ordering (Kohl's Corporation -- Company History, n.d.). Dell Inc. is an excellent example of Product Differentiation, as customers are able to customize the products to their personal needs. Customers can order over the phone or through the internet web site (Laudon & Laudon, 2010, pg. 97). Consumers can create an account and log onto the web site, search for the product of interest and then select and customize the product such as a personal computer or printer (Dell,
