The cattle need to mimic nature by trampling heavily on the grass, when the grass is trampled it is covered in dung, urine, litter and mulch and that soil then holds and absorbs rain to store carbon and break down methane. Plants can then grow without using fire. By making use of Holistic Management and planned grazing this addresses all of natures complexities and our social environmental economical complexity. Using livestock to mimic nature will heal lands. Degraded Farmlands in the Karoo can rehabilitate degraded farmlands (desertification) by using the correct land management procedures (hoof effect), Holistic Plant grazing, use of Biomimicry* which allows the land to heal itself.
