The captain in charge of the ship was traumatized with the idea of transporting slave in such inhuman way that would condemn most of the slave to suffer or even worse to die due to the miserable condition they were going to be transported tied with handcuffs laying down over a wood surface not bigger than 4 inches.

It was interesting how the Mandinka boys became me. They were exposed to a particular ritual where in order to become men, Mandinkas had to show courage, brave and as well have no fear. It was funny the special task that had to be committed by Kunta Kinte which was to catch a bird without the use of weapons. . This formed part of the disciplined ritual to become a Mandinka man.

On board of the ship, Kunta and others prisoners witness the miserable conditions there were to be exposed. Below deck, slaves were packed like sardines with a minimum space where they could barely move, they were chained and there wasn’t fresh air to be breathed; consequently some of the slaves started dying.

Its inexplicable how depressing where the conditions on board the ship toward slaves. They had to sleep over wood’s bed, they were no air flow, many slaves were suffocating, dehydrated, and as consequence, many slaves were sentenced to die.
