Lab Report Yeast Enzyme Experiment
For this experiment, we started off by taking tubes numbered 1-4 and started adding one scoop of our enzyme catalyst, in this case, the yeast. We then proceeded to measure and add 1 mL of distilled water to test tubes A-D. To get a more accurate measure of 1 mL of distilled water, we used the dropper labeled “W” to drop distilled water into the 5 mL graduated cylinder until we saw that the bottom of the water line reached closely to 1 mL. Next, we took the four tubes with the scoop of yeast and added to each the corresponding 1 mL of water from tubes A-D. As soon as each tube had the 1 mL of water we put the timer for exactly ten minutes and waited for the yeast or our enzyme to “activate”. During the ten minutes, my partner and I started preparing our 0%, 25%, 50% and our 100% Hydrogen Peroxide solution. …show more content…
Tahmaseb and poured a generous amount into the tube labeled D. We then took the 5 mL graduated cylinder and the dropper labeled “H” and started dropping drops of Hydrogen Peroxide or H2O2 until it measured 1 mL of H2O2. We then took that 1 mL of H2O2 and poured it in test tube labeled C, we then proceeded to measure 1 mL of water and also added it to the test tube labeled C. This would give us a 50% concentrate solution. Since we had 2 mL and only needed 1 mL of 50% concentrate solution, we took out exactly 1 mL of that solution and poured it into the test tube label B. In order to obtain a 25% concentrate solution in test tube B, we measured and added 1 more mL of distilled water. Once the 50% solution and the 1 mL of water were well combined, we had a 25% concentrate

Battles have been fought since the dawn of time. Weapons have gradually become more technological and sophisticated each and every time. People learn from their mistakes, as did the Indians in the late 1700s, as well as the Confederate troops from the Civil War. The Union was victorious in this war for freedom, and to this day, the north is more the heart of the country's economy.…

The results of our experiment showed the solutions in both tube 1 and tube 2 increasing in absorbency in the first eight minutes but then tube 1 continued to increase while tube 2 began to balance out. Tube 3, our blank, managed to stay at 0nm the entire twenty minutes. From this data, we can conclude that our hypothesis was supported that EDTA had a greater change in absorption over PTU.…

Enzymes are proteins that are involved in all the chemical processes in living things. As they are made of proteins they are affected by pH and temperature. Enzymes are catalysts; they speed up chemical reactions without being changed themselves. Digestive enzymes speed up the breakdown of large food molecules into smaller ones so that the blood can absorb them. Enzymes turn a large starch molecule into thousands of tiny glucose molecules. Enzymes end in 'ase'. There are thousands of enzymes in our body but each enzyme is only specialised to do one thing, for example carbohydraise enzymes digest carbohydrates, protease enzymes digest protein.…

Our experiment looked at how increasing the surface area of a substance affects the amount of bubbles created due to the presence of the enzyme catalase. The experiment used two pieces of fish, one whole and one ground up, which were then covered in hydrogen peroxide. This method allowed us to observe the catalase in ground up fish break down the hydrogen peroxide at a quicker rate than in the piece of fish left intact. This was determined by observing a larger formation of bubbles, the visual indicator of hydrogen peroxide being broken down into a non-toxic form of hydrogen and water. This study allowed us to observe first hand catalase can perform further when the surface area is larger.…
