I am going to examine how the reader responds to the character of lady Macbeth.
The main themes include relationship, witchcraft, power and ambition. I will talk about how lady Macbeth is involved with all of these themes. The play is divided into 5 acts with on stage and off stage action. I am going to explain how love and hate are very strong words and so my feelings towards terms such as admiration, respect, contempt, and dislike.
Here’s a part of the play that deal with a sense of hatred towards lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is often portrayed as one of the most wicked women in all of literature. At the start of the play, she is ruthless and will do anything to make sure her husband becomes king. We see this right away when we first meet her in act 1 scene 5. When she received the letter from her husband Macbeth, she immediately sees the opportunity to make plans. Her attitude is even more horrific when she calls on evil spirits to come and posses her, taking control of her actions, she says “Come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here… make thick blood… take my milk for gall… you murdering ministers… come thick night”. All these images of darkness and horror reveal the true character of lady Macbeth; she feels the need to become wicked.
