The Last Meow Essay
Why do people spend so much money on their animal? In Burkhard Bilgers “The Last Meow” people are spend thousands of dollars on their cat. Many people spend money like that on their animals. People spend that money on special food, toys, and most expensively veterinary care. Many people argue all the money spent on animals can go toward more important things like human health care and technological advancements. I argue that people can spend money on their animals if they wish. Besides, it is their money that they are spending, they love their animals, and animals have the right to live a nice life to.
First, it is their money that they are spending. If they make enough money to pay for whatever it may be then they should be allowed to spend it on that. That is why we have a free market system in America. If my dog was seriously injured and unless I did not pay the money he would die. I would pay that money in a heartbeat. In middle school my dog had internal bleeding and we took her to the Vet and spend 2 thousand on her to keep her alive and she is still living to this day.
Secondly, People who are going to spend thousands of dollar on their animals obviously love them. If you loved something so much would you let it die? Of course not. Animals can become like they are a part of your family, to where you love them just at much as you love any other family member.
Lastly, animals have just as much the right to live as humans do. Dogs have been on earth just as long as humans if not long! They deserve to be able to live happily also. We should be spending just as much on animals to keep them alive as we do on humans. The guy in the last meow spent half of his salary just to keep his cat alive that was deaf blind and really sick just so he could pretty much say goodbye.
So why should people spend just as much money on animals? Well because they love their animals, it is their money that they are spending on the animals, and animals have

Everyone has their own perspective of how animals should be treated the majority of people are on the no rights side. In Gary L Francione, professor of law at Rutgers University, and Anna E Charlton, adjunct professor of law at Rutgers University essay “The Case Against Pets” says that once you own something it becomes property no matter how you treat it since you have the power to do what is right and what is wrong. In worldnetdaily.com in 2003 essay “No rights for Animals” says that animals are somewhat worthy of human compassion, kindness, and care by nature but not of any human rights at all. Gary L Francione, Anna E Charlton and worldnetdaily.com in 2003 both explain how to define animals right before saying if animals even have to be…

Animal rights are rights given to animals that allow them to live a life without ill-treatment and corporate exploitation. PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk has said, “When it comes to pain, love, joy, loneliness, and fear, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. Each one values his or her life and fights the knife”(). I agree that animals should have compassion shown towards them, as they have a life worth living. At the same time, I don't believe that an animal's…

The owner of the cat in The Last Meow “had studied enough psychology to suspect that her feelings for Lady were party misplaced mothering instincts.” Owners feel a connection to their pets that can be portrayed as a friendship or as a parent-child relationship, which is why they want to keep their pets as healthy as possible, because they don’t want to lose someone important to them. Although pets are considered family members to most people, “The rights we grant animals are, first and foremost, a function of empathy…[v]eterinarians like to talk about a pet’s quality of life, but no one really knows what they mean…[d]o they also feel enough pleasure—enough joy in the sheer fact of existence—to make surviving worthwhile?” These owners are putting their pets through all these treatments when these animals could be absolutely miserable. Along with that, veterinarian hospitals have “donor animals” which are simply there to donate organs to other animals. It’d almost be more humane to put them down when they have to be seriously treated since they have no say or consent in the matter. When malpractice lawsuits started coming into play, courts genuinely had to consider whether animals should be treated with these human rights in court, even though pets had no consent to what was done to them in the first place. To make it even more extreme, “[t]he…

Jeremy Rifkin in the article “A Change of Heart About Animals” describes how the lives of animals are all for the benefit of the human race and how animals deserve more respect. Many concerned and caring people believe that animals should be treated with love and respect. The reality of this is that Rifkin seizes to comprehend that the life without using animals as a benefit is highly unlikely and would just further complicate the already complex world we live in today. To some point I can agree with Rifkin, but highly disagree with him when it comes to how animals are only used for benefiting humans.…

Animals deserve rights because just like humans, they feel excruciating pain, suffer and have feelings. One would argue that animals don’t experience emotions? But the answer is of course they do. It is emotions that allow animals to display various behavior patterns. According to the theory of utilitarianism, all sentient beings should be given consideration in the society and this includes both animals and humans. Also, animals cannot speak for themselves and for this reason they should be treated equally, protected and given the same respect as human beings. Peter singer’s approach also supports the argument on equal consideration in that animals deserve the same respect as human beings but just in a different view. In today’s society humans exploit animals for milk, meat, fur, scientific experimentation etc. and animals are constantly injured or killed. Their pain and sufferings should be taken into consideration, as this unjust treatment is morally unacceptable. Similarly speciesism is an…

We live in a world where people increasingly care more about animal life than human life. Of course this is nothing new. Clement of Alexandria in the second century chastised the Romans for saving and protecting young birds and other creatures while abandoning their own children. All this is the result of a pagan worldview where animal life is elevated with, and many cases above, human life:…

And stop thinking of the money and the entertainment of others. These people are so concerned about money and how they look to the world. They don’t care about these animals at all and that’s sad. If they cared about these animals they would show it by not giving them foods that will make them sick, and not keeping them in tiny tanks that are just filled with water and nothing else. They just need to be worrying about the animals and their safety and health because right now that’s the most important…

Now, why should we look after animals, surely they are something that we could just use as a luxury? Why do we have to help animals in general? This may sound silly and unusual but actually we are all animals … every single person in this room is an animal, every single person in this world is an animal. All we are, are just adapted animals ( so we have not got any fur, we can permanently stand on two feet, we don’t have a tail or any different features like that, we don’t have noticeable hair everywhere, only where we necessarily think or want in that case. We have hardly any…

In May 2013, Edward Snowden, a CIA and NSA employee, risked his career and freedom to do something he felt was right; let the world know that the United States had programs such as the interception of telephone metadata, PRISM, XKeyscore, and Tempora internet surveillance programs. This was called the most significant leak in US history by some and sparked up the discussion about the balance between national security and civil liberties. The country needs to strike a balance between national security and civil liberties by sacrificing some of one to give way for more of the other.…

As a little girl, I have always loved, cherished, respected, and admired animals. I believe in animals receiving equality, meaning: animals who are abused, tortured, killed, and treated unkindly in any manner should receive the same justice that people do. Animals should not be slaughtered or chemically tested on for our needs. And just like any other human being, I was raised to believe that animals too, go to heaven.…
