Last Of The Mohicans
The film The Last of the Mohicans, starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe, is an adaptation of the James Fennimore Cooper novel with the same name. It is an entertaining movie with historical relevance and highlights events that occurred during the French and Indian War, such as the siege of Fort William Henry. During the war, the British, French, and Native American tribes were faced with many conflicts that are embodied in the film. The Last of the Mohicans is set in the British colony of New York during the year 1757, in the midst of the French and Indian War. Colonel George Munro is in command of Fort William Henry and sends for his daughters, Cora and Alice, to join him. Major Duncan Heyward, along with a small militia, escort them from Albany to the fort in the Adirondack Mountains. The

While their claimed land did not contain precious metals, it proved to be rich farmland. As the population of the colony grew, so did the demand for food. This infringed upon Native American land holdings which created conflict between the natives and the British colonists. In spite of this, the Iroquois Indians were British allies and helped them fight the French during the French and Indian War. The reason they fought alongside the British had nothing to do with their allegiance to the Crown; Indian tribes who were enemies of the Iroquois were fighting for the French army.

Also, Magua initially poses as a Mohawk guide for the British party going to Fort William Henry, instead of letting his true Huron identity be known.
