The Detroit police department is an organization that relies on tradition. Because of this, the Detroit police department will have to resort to non-traditional means in its organization in order to fit in with the 21st century. A team effort is required for elected officials and the police department in order for this change to become effective. "History has shown that the elected officials and the police department have not worked as a team" Fisette (2002) Pg. 2 Para 1. This history has brought up a question on if the city of Detroit and elected officials can cooperate with one another in order to bring a new look on community…

As we discovered in Project 1, Little Louie, Billy Bad Boy committed a string of crimes, initially resulting in an attempt to rob Commercial Corruption, a local bank. The two alleged criminals were apprehended by the police and informed of their rights. Here, I will identify the specific role that each played with the particular crime, the elements that lead to this conclusion, and the potential defenses the defending party might assert and any inconsistencies that might arise with these defenses.…
Anti-terrorism efforts are no longer limited to agencies on the federal level. In the wake of 9/11, the federal government formed the Homeland Security Agency whose prime objective is to protect the country from possible terrorist acts. The process of gathering intelligence regarding terrorism is global. British intelligence relies on shared intelligence from the U.S. and vice versa. It therefore only makes sense to include state and local authorities as well. Over recent years, officials have taken a more proactive approach on these levels by providing anti-terrorism training to local and state law enforcement officers. The officials in the department of Homeland Security now work more closely with state and local departments in anti-terrorism initiatives because they realized that in most instances, these departments are the first line of defense. The changes in the NYPD following the 9/11 attacks signaled the beginning of a national network of law enforcement agencies working together in the fight against…
“The profession of policing and public safety continues to confront new challenges that also present a wealth of opportunities for initiating substantive change” (Batts, Smoot, & Scrivner, 2012, p. 18). Some have noted leaders in the criminal justice police organization face a crossroad when striking a balance between judicial and governmental expectations, the agency itself, stakeholders, and the public. According to Bisschop and Kimpe (2009), “The Diversity of these sometimes conflicting demands –representing the complexity inherent to the police organization –offers a number of distinct challenges for police leadership”…

Due to immediate access of public information and technology, the magnification of the microscope has been increased. However, that is something that evolves with public perception, the legal system, etc... where something that was common place and ethical 100 years ago would not be considered today. People are basically good and the basic Judeo/Christian principle upon which our system is founded has remained, for the most part, unchanged.…
The federal government of the United States empowers a wide range of law enforcement agencies to maintain law and public order related to matters affecting the country as a whole. The Federal Law enforcement agencies are only authorized to enforce various laws generally only on a federal level. Majority of these agencies have broad federal enforcement powers, but most enforce only narrow portions of federal law. In some cases, they may be empowered to enforce state and local law as well. These agencies may generally have nationwide jurisdiction for enforcement of designated federal law but specifically their power is geographically limited. Most federal agencies are limited by the U.S. Code to investigating matters that are explicitly within the power of the federal government. Some federal investigative powers have become broader in practice, since the passage of the USA Patriot Act in October 2001.…
