August 30, 2013 Laziness “Get up and do your homework now!” My mom tells to me every day after my practice. Lazy: a four letter word that offends me in many different ways; the word that gives me anger and motivation to sports. The word lazy can hurt me but can also be a big motivation. There is usually nothing that hurts me since I have thick skin but with word everything changes. I get extremely offended and defensive which can sometimes get ugly. Last football season my coaches would always call me something that I didn’t understand at first but then I finally caught on to it. I heard them yell something strange that came at me like a hungry wolf let loose into a dark room with only me in it. They yelled out “Walker Texas Ranger,” you know like that television series featuring Chuck Norris. Well they would call me that because one day we watched the game film from our last game and they caught me walking on the field a lot of times so the name “Walker Texas Ranger,” just fit the puzzle. I realized what they said hurt me and never wanted to be called that again. But knowing myself I know I will always be lazy so the name calling kept going. The only thing is that Laziness is not something you choose it just comes with your personality, and your being. It is not something I am proud of but something will I have to work against. The thing about laziness is that you are indolent. I am not like that; I am a different type of lazy. I am the lazy guy that will get down to business when it is needed unlike other lazy people that say they will but never do. I do admit I am lazy. Sometime i will not do my homework, do an important assignment, or simply not walk during a play. But hey I am not the only one in the world; I am just one of many. The “Mornings” are the number one thing that just tag

Main Points: Many sports teams based their team names off of animals, but some based their names off of ethnic groups. Teams use variations of ethnic group cultures to display the team theme, which subjects the culture to political correctness. Schools are requesting for students to conform to participating in celebrations of certain teams to which may cause conflicts with some having an ethic group as a mascot or theme.…

Others do it because they just honestly hate doing their work. Im also a victim of that as well. What is the actual definition of procrastination? The answer is, procrastination is the act of postponing or putting off until a later date. Dr. Perry himself was a self hating procrastinator until finally it occurred to Perry that he wasn’t exactly entirely that lazy. When Mr. Perry wasn’t grading his papers, he wasn’t sitting down, sometimes he would sharpen his pencils, or he would play games with the other kids there. So, one time in your life you probably will procrastinate, and you wouldn’t know…

It is one of the most underrated troubles. For it causes many issues in the world, though the blame always seems to fall upon some other reason of cause. Laziness causes people to not want to fulfill their wildest dreams to refusing to do necessary duties. On the island of the lotus eaters, Odysseus faces laziness at its most extreme. The lotus flowers cause people to magically lose their longing for home. Sailors don’t have much control over their laziness, for it was forced upon them by way of magic lotus flowers from the natives. My troubles with laziness come from giving up because something is “too hard”, when really I just am being lazy. It causes me to not work as hard as I should to achieve my goal of having a happy and healthy lifestyle. Laziness in Odysseus’ story and mine are similar because we both lose the lust for our goal. Luckily we can both overcome laziness with hard work and determination, even if Pandora releases it from the box…

What if “Lazy American” had more meaning than what we thought? What if instead of it just being an insult it was the truth? Over recent years researchers have conducted tests on young Americans to compare to that of other countries. Unfortunately, for the common American, these test results were not so favorable. These tests proved just how “lazy” America is in regards to sleep habits, study habits, technology use and other stipulations that correlate to their grades. The results proved American students being far more lazy and less motivated to complete assignments on time and with utmost effort.…

Generally speaking, a lack of hope can push an individual down a dark path of risk-taking, deviant, or even criminal behavior. Hope is a critically important positive mind set for people to possess. When one lacks hope, he or she does not care about much in life. If that type of attitude exists, then what stops this individual from doing things that are immoral and criminal? In addition, not being able to hope for or look forward to particular events in the future might lead an individual to act out against others. Again such behaviors are criminal in nature. And finally, the negativity that is associated with a lack of hope in one’s life may lead this person to act out against others who are seen as the cause of it. Unfortunately, a lack of hope just contributes to the increase in crime in America.…

Brave new world is a novel in which people just want to be happy rather than being conscious and aware of their real situation. Brave New World is full of characters who do everything they can to avoid facing the truth about their own situations. The people use drug to feel they are having everything although for real they almost have nothing but the drug. The almost universal use of the drug soma is probably the most pervasive example of such willful self-delusion. Soma takes the reality from the people and take them to a world where they get what they want. Soma clouds the realities of the present and replaces them with happy hallucinations, and is thus a tool for promoting social stability. But even Shakespeare can be used to avoid facing the truth, as John demonstrates by his insistence on viewing Lenina through the lens of Shakespeare’s world, first as a Juliet and later as an “impudent strumpet.” According to Mustapha Mond, the World State prioritizes happiness at the expense of truth by design: he believes that people are better off with happiness than with truth as if people don’t need to know what’s going on around them , they just need to feel that they are happy. It seems clear enough from Mond’s argument that happiness refers to the immediate gratification of every citizen’s desire for food, sex, drugs, nice clothes, and other consumer items. In the novel Mond think it’s much more better to feel wealthy than to really be wealthy. It is less clear what Mond means by truth, or specifically what truths he sees the World State society as covering up. From Mond’s discussion with John, it is possible to identify two main types of truth that the World State seeks to eliminate. First, as Mond’s own past indicates, the World State controls and muffles all efforts by citizens to gain any sort of scientific, or empirical truth. Second, the government attempts to destroy all kinds of “human” truths, such as love, friendship, and personal connection. These two…

Over the years much research has been done on the topic of self-handicapping. There have been many studies done on the relationship between the effects of self-handicapping on physical performance of athletes and physical education students. How much of an effect, and whether it is positive or negative to physical performance was a matter of controversy however. The studies agreed that self-handicapping had an impact on physical performance but each went into deeper variables that may enhance or inhibit the effects seen. The literature reviewed shows how self-handicapping and the deeper variables mentioned in each individual study affect physical performance.…

There are many causes for laziness, but I think one of the biggest causes of student laziness isn't laziness at all. I used to be called lazy a lot in school and it was never a matter of being lazy, it was more because I struggled with the understanding and the teachers would put me down so much that I felt stupid asking questions. When you hear over and over that the answer should be easy but it isn't you eventually just give up. It's not because you're lazy at all.…

Patriotism is when you have a feeling of belonging, a feeling of a positive debt towards a larger entity of the nation. We don’t need to serve in the defense forces to show our patriotism. We are a part of a young, educated, and dedicated generation of Pakistan with the ability to understand the society better and do our part for the nation’s uplift. Patriotism is doing what John F. Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I think this statement is an integral part of what patriotism truly means and this quote of President John F. Kennedy should be written on the first page of each book we teach at school in order to have our students remember that whenever they open their books.…
