After King Arthur discovers that Sir Ector is not his biological father and that he is the rightful heir to the throne, he does not hesitate to acknowledge that Sir Ector is his true father, as his loving caretaker. This characteristic of loyalty is a great quality in a king. Leaders must be loyal to their own citizens and to allies in order to maintain a peaceful relationship with them. Once a ruler is disloyal to his people, he will lose their support, which can ultimately cost him his position. In addition to that, if other trusted countries feel treacherousness from an allied country’s leader, it can cause a lot of controversy, and even a war. Loyal leaders manage harmonious countries.

Before Sir Kay’s jousting tournament he realizes that he left his sword at home and beseeches Arthur to get it for him. Arthur hastily runs back towards their house, but stops at the famed sword stuck in the stone. He decides to get Excalibur for his brother and pulls it out without any adversity. Both the fact that Arthur was willing to go and retrieve his brother’s sword and that he returned successful, shows his incredible ability to be innovative.
