Leadership In Armageddon

Armageddon is a movie about the end of the world. The danger impose by a possible asteroid destroying Earth creates a stressful environment for the men who are chosen to save it. Protective Harry Stamper, instinctive A.J. Frost, and the genius Rockhound are three of the individuals chosen to save planet Earth. They each experience their own challenges and display different behaviors.

Harry Stamper bravery, persistence, and protective nature give him the quality of a great leader. His protective nature may have arised because his wife left him and since then he felt the urge to protect his little girl. The limits he would go to protect his little girl can be seen when he attempts to shot A.J. because he caught him sleeping with her. Harry isn’t just protective over his daughter, he is also protective over his men. For example, when the bomb was set to self-detonate, Harry tried to delay the bomb’s
explosion because he still had two men out in space. Even at gunpoint, Harry chose to fight because he needed to protect his men and to save planet Earth. Harry was very persistent and it is shown in the scene where he had to set of the bomb. Harry had to push the button to detonate the bomb, however he is blown into the hole he drilled last minute. His initial reaction is to get up. He uses up all his adrenaline to climb out of the hole and find the button. His exhaustion is seen when he finally pushed the button and ends it all. Harry saved and impacted many lives. A.J.
was one the persons impacted by Harry. A.J. knew Harry for five years. In those five years he observed Harry and tried to imitate his behavior. Because he tried to be like Harry, natural he wanted to win Harry’s acceptance. A.J. need to get Harry’s acceptance may explain why he was determined, cocky, and instinctive. Like Harry, A.J. also displayed leadership qualities, except A.J. was a bit more reckless. For example, A.J. chose to continue to drill even when he was told to stop, even when he was aware that it could blow and end his life like Max. However, in that stressful situation, A.J. chose to fight and because he chose to fight, he too saved the lives of many people. He almost also got to the chance to sacrifice himself in other to save the rest of mankind, but Harry took his place. A.J. was shocked and confused when Harry took his place. However, when he finally realised what happened, he was sad that the man he looked up to chose to take his place. The exhaustion of the event can be seen in his face when they are preparing to go back
home.
