Leadership In Lord Of The Flies
Good leadership is when a leader takes action and knows right from wrong. A good leader is someone who can lead the group and know how to protect the group from dangers. An example of good leadership in “Lord of the Flies” by William Golden would be Ralph. The reason I chose Ralph for good leadership is because when the plane crashed onto the uninhabited island causing the scar, Ralph began searching for other kids trying to form a group to survive and get rescued from the island. There are also some capable leaders such as Jack, Simon, and Piggy. Jack would also be a capable leader but there are a lot of flaws about Jack Merridew. Jack in the book “Lord of the Flies” is considered a hunter and someone who is selfish and is all about trying to find ways he can enforce rules and become leader. An example would be when Ralph gave Jack an important job which was to keep the fire going through the day just in case a ship passes by. All of a sudden a ship appears and Ralph looks back at the fire and finds out the fire was out. Ralph in a hurry runs towards the fire looking for Jack. Minutes later Jack comes back to the fire with a pig to roast. Ralph …show more content…
Something about Simon that is unique is when he makes an opinion is he usually right on the mark. Simon doesn’t really fill a big role in the book “Lord of the Flies” because he is a follower. Simon usually follows his gut instincts and follows orders. Simon also is very kind to others but doesn’t have the skill to lead others like Ralph. An example would be when Simon the littluns start talking about their fears in the meeting they mention seeing a shadow moving in the night. Simon later admits that it was him going around the forest at night. Simon in this situation wouldn’t be a leader because he’s scaring the littluns and he doesn’t really know what he needs to do to help others out, therefore, he is not a leader that meets the

In the book Lord of the Flies Simon has changed from being a sensible, skittish, weak boy to a distorted, brave, helpful boy. In the begging of the book Simon is introduced as the weak boy who isn’t strong enough to hold up his own weight. After Ralph blows the conch for the very first time a new group of boys arrives called the Choir this is were Simon faints Merridew the Choir leader says, “he always throwing a faint”(20), Merridew is talking about Simon. Another time when Simon comes off being weak and afraid is when he admits to believing in a beast and says, “maybe, maybe there is a beast”(88). Although Simon is weak and afraid he is very sensible and is able to keep a sense of hope Simon tells Ralph that, “you’ll get back to where you came from”(111). Another sensible thing that Simon said was how the beast is in every one although this seemed weird at the time as the book went on Simons theory became more true almost everyone resorted into being a beast who murdered people.…

At the beginning of Lord of the Flies Ralph and Jack are competing for the role of leader. They go about this in very different ways like how Ralph tries to convince them about what needs to get done and how they should be doing things. While on the other hand Jack tries to gain the affections of the group by letting them do whatever they want whenever, and giving the meaty nutrition (69). Ralph has a lot of good leadership qualities like being able to take input from teammates like Piggy, and how he focuses on the immediate problem at hand (42). Jack has good leadership qualities as well like how he is willing to let them have fun, and how he organizes the hunts (51). Thought they both have admirable leadership qualities I believe the better leader of the two is Ralph.…

Jack is the most effective leader in Lord of the Flies because he has gotten the most results when following through with plans. The boys on the island listen to him and do what he says without question, even if it is harsh. He isn’t afraid to be blunt with the boys and believes he is the strongest one there, even though he was not voted chief. Jack’s arrogant and hostile personality makes the other boys feel intimidated to follow his commands. This is apparent when Jack orders the boys to start collecting leaves, sticks, and dried wood to help create the fire: “All at once the crowd swayed toward the island and was gone--- following Jack. Even the tiny children went and did their best among the leaves and broken branches” (Golding 38). In…

Imagine a world without leadership and order. One that wasn’t civilized, had no control. Such a world would be classified as savage at the very least. Golding portrays the importance in control and advantageous leadership through the protagonist, Ralph in the novel Lord of The Flies by illustrating him as a natural leader, then having him shift into an uncivilized animal whose losing control.…

In the lord of the flies Golding explores the theme of dynamic leadership throughout the novel. Ralph is the most dynamic and effective leader in the lord of the flies because he is the primary representative of order, civilization, and productive leadership. While most of the boys initially are concerned with playing, having fun, and avoiding work, Ralph sets about building huts and thinking of ways to be rescued. For this reason Ralph’s power and influence over the others are secure at the beginning of the novel. “Something deep in Ralph spoke for him. “I’m chief. I’ll go. Do not argue.”pg 155. In William Golding’s novel Lord of the Files, the young boys have to make this decision. The leader on this island shouldn’t be just one boy. It would be best for the kids to pick two boys to lead their pack. Piggy and Ralph are perfect examples of kids who should be co-leaders. The boys might not have thought about it, but it should be both of them for multiple reasons. First, these two boys work really well together together. Piggy and Ralph have worked well together since they found the conch in the beginning of the book. Also, the two boys have the same goal. They want to get off the island as soon as they can.…

In Lord of the Flies Jack proves that people are essentially evil through his actions and dialogues with other boys on the island. For example, he would speak with the other boys and say, “‘His specs-use them as burning glasses’” (Golding 40) Jack uses has authority even though Ralph is chief and uses that to his advantage to make the boys do what he wants. This is definitely a good example of how humans are essentially evil because using authority to get people to do what they want is very selfish and self-centered. At the beginning of the story where authority is being decided Jack says, “‘I ought to be chief,’ said Jack with simple arrogance, ‘because I’m a chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp’” (Golding 22) Even at the beginning…
