In today’s society, racism has been a constant, built into the day to day lives of everyone. But despite the intuitional racism film makers like Spike Lee and John Singleton have inspired many and have brought the struggles of the black community to the screen. Spike Lee was going for more of a radical way for the black community to be in the system, while Singleton was advocating for the black community to work the system in which they were born into.…
He went on to elaborate his vision of a moment in the future when the most eloquent and intelligent representatives of both races join forces in a united struggle against racial oppression. “For that all-too-brief hour,” he declared, “the mixed audience seemed to forget their difference, applauding one team as readily as it applauded another. In the South, I have seen the children of ex-slaves shaking hands with the grandsons of the masters after the debate.”…

There are many different positive qualities in the movie Remember the Titans. One great quality worth recognition is the impeccable acting of the two head coaches. Denzel Washington does an unbelievable job teaching the young men that whether white or black, teamwork will lead to success. The other head coach, Will Patton, does not play the expected demoted coach that wants to ruin the new head coach. Instead he understands the message the other coach is preaching and does his best to help the team succeed. Another quality aspect is the overall message that is conveyed by the movie. At this time racism and diversity was a very big deal in society. This movie portrays that it is possible to work together to achieve common goals despite what differences there may be. Remember the Titans has many great qualities with the two coaches acting and the overall theme being two important aspects…
There once was a time when African Americans and Whites were segregated for generations, but it was time for a change. This inspiring story, Remember the Titans, shows in a example of change. A group of high school football players had to learn to respect each other regardless of the color of their skin. Although many did protest, the football players prevailed and became of symbol of unity in the area. This lead to an inspiring message that no matter how different one is, you can still overcome and be united as one. Overall the movie was extremely touching and inspiring, the characters grew to have a special bond, and the music was wonderful.…
Monday Morning Leadership is an excellent book written about several broad aspects of leadership. David Cottrell uses a simple dialogue between Jeff and his mentor, Tony, to keep the book interesting, easy to read, and informational. To effectively summarize and report on this book I will look at the different ideas Cottrell presents separately.…
The time era that this film was connecting to was the early 1970’s due to the heavy civil topics such as discrimination and racism. T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia at the time was a desegregated school and the hiring of their first African American head coach Herman Boone which raises the racial tension throughout the community. Coach Boone seizes the job from Bill Yoast who is a Caucasian and has already been nominated for the Virginia High School Hall of Fame. The two coaches set aside their differences because…
Melvin B. Tolson is the kind of educator who truly did recognize the remarkable powers of knowledge his students possessed. “The Great Debaters” is based on a true story about an outspoken Wiley College professor who boldly challenged the discriminatory Jim Crow laws of the 1930s. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in fighting injustice and oppression with the use of nonviolence. I choose this great leader and speaker because he understood the battle was against malevolent forces and not against those succumbing to those forces. In Dr. King’s (1957) “Nonviolence and Racial Justice” commentary he states, “It is evil we are seeking to defeat, not the persons victimized by evil” (p. 120). Dr. King’s leadership within the civil rights movement was grounded in biblical Christian beliefs, holding God as the ultimate authority, Jesus as the redeemer for all humanity, un-conditional love and forgiveness, strength of internal character, and the power of…
Remember the Titans, racism and prejudiced based movie among the black and white. A black coach…
Remember the Titans is an excellent movie that shows diversity and racism in its full form. The lead actor is an African American who plays a high school football coach to a newly integrated team. This movie depicts the effect of racism in a small community. One of the things I liked most about the movie is that the love of one sport brought a segregated community together as a whole. The younger generation helped the older generation to look past hatred and come together to obtain a victory that was much greater than any trophy.…
So to begin with, having presidential debates help us learn more about the candidate's personality which is very helpful because if we don't know know how they're going to be as president then how are we supposed to trust them to protect us and to help us. So not only will having presidential debates help us know more about the candidates character it also helps us see the ideas that the candidate has for our country. Having to know the ideas that they have is very important because if you vote for them without knowing what their goals are for our country chances are is that it’s going to be something that you won’t like . So in conclusion, having debates are very useful for they give us a idea of how the candidates are going to be as a…

The Great Debaters is a drama film based on the story of Melvin B. Tolson; Union Activist, Communication and English professor of Wiley College. Tolson had a mediocre vision of transitioning four amateur African Americans into master debaters which would allow them to defeat all other African American debate teams. In 1930, Mr. Tolson held tryouts for the debate team. He warned all contestants that only four will be left standing, however, he reminds them that debate is all about the hotspot in which depicts who will withstand. “The Great Debaters” is directed as well as starred by Denzel Washington. The primary theme of this film is to explain the difficulties as well as identify the structure of four individuals that became master debaters during the time of inequality towards African American in the Jim Crow South.…
