I would like to take the time and discuss some concerns that I know is effecting Kylee’s learning environment. This weekend Kylee was very emotional from the situation that has been occurring in class. As a parent I feel like the situations are affecting her from focusing in class, and not being able to focus on her school work.
Brandon is the first child I would like to discuss as his actions towards Kylee are forms of bullying. Kylee informed me that Brandon threaten to STAB Kylee in the eye with a pencil. This behavior to me is unacceptable. Kylee informed me that he also made the hand gesture with the pencil as if he was really going to stab her in the eye. Kylee told me that she informed you (Mr.Burke) of the situation and you told the student he will be sent to detention if he says it again. I feel like this situation should have been addressed at hand with the school counselor to identify the seriousness of bullying. The Brownsburg Community School Corporation Bylaw and Policies specially states the school board is committed to providing a safe, positive, and productive and nurturing education environment for all students.

At the parent teacher conference we discuss Kylee not focusing during lecture time in class. I informed you that Kylee seat needs to be moved because Christopher is a distraction to her during class. I feel like there has been too much time that has gone by and Kylee desk needs to be moved immediately. Christopher is continuing to kick her chair, throw pencils, throws things away that are on her desk (her personal belongings). This situation is creating a hostile environment for my child which; has the effect of substantially interfering with of Kylee’s academic performance. If Kylee is called to the front of the class to perform a problem on the board she is scarred of Christopher taking something out of her

    One day on placement a child (child A) was upset because another child (child B) wouldn’t let her play with the trains too. Child A came to me crying and told me that Child B wouldn’t let her play with the trains, I went to find to find child B at the trains table and asked him if he said Child A couldn’t play with the trains. He said that he did because there wasn’t enough room for child A to play at the train table even though he was the only one person plating there. In turn I said child B there is enough room, 3 people can play here at a time and asked “what do we do at school with toys” he replied I don’t know, so I asked child A if she knew and could help child B, she said we share them. At this point the class teacher came over and asked if everything was alright. I explained the situation, She then asked child B if that was right and he said “Now, she wouldn’t let me play with the trains”. The teacher conversed with the children to try and get a clear picture of what had happened and then said to me that I could deal with child B’s behaviour in the way that we usually do. Child A went on to play with the trains and I took child B to one side went down to his level and explained to him that he needs to sit on the chair in the other room and think about what he had done and why you must tell the truth and why it is important to share toys. In 5 minutes I went back and asked if he had thought about what I asked him to he said yes and told me that school toys are for everyone and do not belong to him and that lying is a bad thing to do and gets you in trouble.     I was confronted with an ethical conflict with a student. Bob (name has been changed) is a second grade boy with Emotional Disturbance. One morning during writing, Bob got upset because he did not want to write. I reminded him that he is in school to work hard. That it was not okay for him to refuse to work. I told him writing is really important and he is going to do it more in 3rd grade. I asked him to clip down for his behavior (behavior system) because he was not working hard, which breaks the school wide rule of making good choices. He was so upset that he pulled the bucket from my hand and hit me. I informed him that I understood that he was really upset and told him that that is definitely not the way to resolve a conflict. I reminded him that adults do not go around hitting one another because there are grave consequences for that type of action. I resolved the situation by reminding him to be mindful of his emotions and reminded him to breathe deeply to calm his heart rate. I gave him a break and then reminded him that when he is feeling really upset he needs to use his words so we can meet his needs. I gave him a referral. Even though I understand that the child has a difficult time dealing with emotions, I have provided strategies that can help him calm himself. He did not use them.     BULLYING, this is very common in nurseries and schools and has been for years, but bullying is taken more seriously now than it was in the past years. Bullying should be stopped at all times, if a child is persistently is bullying other children then senior members of staff must be notified, senior members of staff then try to work with the child and involve the parents to discuss the problem of bullying. If such behaviour continues then the setting would contact relevant organisations for example family practitioners to work with the family and child to see why the child is displaying such actions towards other children. The family practitioner would then decide if other organisations need to be involved such as social services. Bullying is very common it can start either with a group of children, sometimes one to one which progresses in other children getting involved. Sometimes children bully a certain child they don’t like, bullying can vary from child to child. Children can get bullied over their clothes, hair or outlook. For example a new child starts school, child A is the new child she is very shy and doesn’t talk much, child B has been in this school for a long time and is well known by all children. Child A is playing outside, child B comes along and starts to tease child A. Child B makes horrible remarks about child A calling her names and saying she smells and he doesn’t like smelly people.
