Graff describes how important it is to teach hidden intellectualism to children that don’t realize it’s inside of them. He describes that if children are able to discuss topics such as today’s music, entertainment, and sports then they can hopefully progress more easily into subjects such as literature, and courses of more difficulty throughout their schooling. Also, if students are asked to write papers on articles such as “Sports Illustrated” or “Vogue” they would become more comfortable writing and analyzing books or articles of a more difficult nature. Graff explains that he is not insisting that children write about cars, sports, or fashion etc in a “cop-out” kind of way, but to write about them through “academic eyes”, and in an analytical and reflective way.…
It is good to hear other people’s opinion on your work, and see you are doing it right and for help they are suggestions and if you don’t like them you don’t have to change your work.…
I will tell the students that they will be able to identify the topic, main idea, and supporting details about something they read. This matters because they will read for information throughout their lives. They will use this skill when reading about things they need to learn about, as well as items of interest to enrich their…

It allows groups to use the situation in the learning environment to develop their social interaction skills e.g. meeting new people, and share ideas. I learned that writing a paper is not only difficult for me but also to my peers. They struggled a lot with getting their thoughts down on paper just like I did. I learned that writing essays is not easy for anyone, especially when writing under pressure. I learned that sometimes leaving your writing for last minute can be a bad thing because they begin to write nonsense in order to get there work done. My peers writing assignments showed me what are the correct things to add to my paper, and what not to add to my paper.…
The only way to get better at certain things is by doing them over and over. I feel as this applies to writing. In writing workshop we wrote a lot. So obviously I think that I became a better writer. Mainly because this semester I wrote as much essays as I did my freshman and sophomore year. During this class I changed some of my ways of writing because I didn’t like how it was. It also helped me see my strong and weak spots in writing. I can leave this class with tips for other students and with things that help me write better. This class is writing workshop and I will leave this class with more writing skill than I had in the beginning of the year.…
* Reasons to Listen: Reading is everywhere. Whether it’s on a billboard, something you have to do for school, or even for a cooking recipe, we all do it every single day.…
Reading has always said to be the key to success, for it encourages learning. Yet, philosophers such as the German Arthur Schopenhauer state that reading too much actually is bad for the mind. I qualify these thoughts as I too agree that the excessiveness of reading may bond the mind’s creativity and freedom, yet feeding on other’s insights is also vital for a well-rounded mindset.…
According to Blocher (2010), the balanced scorecard (BSC) is an accounting report that includes the firm’s critical success factors in four areas: (1) financial performance, (2) customer satisfaction, (3) internal processes, and (4) learning and growth (p.11). The following is a balanced scorecard for Work-study Enterprise Inc.…
Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Reading is a powerful tool that assists people in understanding the daily activities one is involved in. It is the catalyst for learning functions such as math, science, art, music, etc. When one develops consistent reading habits, his/her communication skills improve. Reading allows one to acquire knowledge and expand on his/her knowledge. With good communication skills and the ability to expand one’s knowledge by reading, an individual becomes more valuable within his/her chosen career field. The more valuable one feels the more confident he/she will have when executing his/her tasks. With the knowledge and confidence one achieves through reading, he/she will have the ability to open doors that otherwise may not have been opened for him/her. Both, Moody and Manguel, are passionate about reading because they know and understand what a powerful tool it is and where reading can lead an individual, to success.…
My junior English teacher, Mrs. Doherty, was different compared to other teachers that I had. She was more interested in the process of learning rather than the final result. She would have us go step by step with our drafts, working on them in class for each paragraph. We had peer teaching exercises that allowed everyone to get involved and learn about their essay while aiding each other with their papers. Mrs. Doherty’s class helped me to learn how to accomplice problems at my own pace.…
