Learning something new can be quiet a scary experience. One of the scariest experiences I’ve had to do was learn how to surf. I have always had a deep fear of sharks, but decided I wanted to overcome that fear. I also thought it would be great exercise and not only would help me become more physically stronger, but mentally as well. What I did not realize is, learning how to surf would help me become a more confident person over all. Any new situation makes my anxiety act up a bit, but my very first surfing lesson there was no exception. To over -come my fear of sharks I had to follow through with the lessons. As I came out of the bathroom that morning from changing into my wetsuit I began to become more nervous. I grabbed my board and stood anxiously on the beach waiting for my friend to show up. After a couple minutes of looking at the sunset over the horizon, I became less and less nervous. As I stood there my friend finally walked up, tapped me on my shoulder and asked if I was ready to go. I told him I was still extremely nervous about the sharks. He smiled and told me there was nothing to worry about that there hadn’t been any reports of shark attacks in the area since the early 80’s. Even though he was older and a much better surfer than me, I still wasn’t embarrassed to express my feelings towards him about the sharks. After a couple more minutes of us two talking about it my mind became at ease and I was ready to
