Definition Essay About Fear
Fear: the mere sight of the word makes some of us cringe. It is a feeling we have all dealt with at one time or another. Fear is the quintessential human emotion. Some people live lives devoid of joy, happiness, and pleasure, but no one escapes the experience of fear and fear’s companion, pain. We are born in fear and pain. Our lives are profoundly shaped by them, as well as our efforts to avoid them.” It is something that we first experience as children, and are conditioned to respond to in many different ways. Some of us live in constant fear; of accidents, of bad people doing us harm, or of physical ailments. Others simply take things as they come in life, whether they are good or bad things. In the dictionary, fear is defined as: "a feeling of agitation or anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger. That is a rather ominous definition. Fear can also refer to general anxiety, as in "fear of speaking in public or "fear of open areas . These fears arise not necessarily from a present or imminent threat, but rather a perceived threat, which to some can be just as scary. For most people fear is an unpleasant feeling and it is …show more content…
Seeing a scary movie is a good way to learn to deal with fear. We allow ourselves to be involved in the plot to the point that it scares us, but in the end we know that the movie story isn't real and we can go home to our safe houses and not be sought out by the monsters on the screen. Seeing a scary movie is a good type of fear. It is fear generated by our imaginations for the purpose of entertainment. Another good type of fear is the fear generated by adventure sports such as skydiving. Those who enjoy skydiving realize that there is a certain amount of risk involved with the sport. If things don't go right the skydiver could be seriously injured or killed. The participants involved in skydiving realize there is that chance, but the ultimate goal is to have

The appropriate meaning of fear is continuously explored -yet a precise definition varies. Fear itself rules several aspects of our lives: as presented in William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth; fear is a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, or pain. Fear: the motivation for an individual carry out actions whether they are right or wrong. In the tragic play, Macbeth, the axis of the play was the notion of fear being set upon in the characters minds that influenced their destinies. This can be proved by the subsequent murders that followed after King Duncan's. Likewise, Lady Macbeth constantly washes her hands, sleepwalks and portrays similar abnormal behaviours like this. All this is done out of fear: and similar to her husband’s fear of being caught committing crime. Most importantly, fear is inspired by foresight. Foresight not only triggers disasters but it corrupts an individual as a whole. This influences an individual’s ability to make vital decisions. In the play, Macbeth, Shakespeare portrays the idea that under the influence of fear and foresight, individuals make irrational decisions: ultimately leading to their demises.…

The Gift of Fear," a psychology book by Gavin De Becker, is a great valuable book. It gives significant exhortation about acceptable behavior upon human instinct, how to perceive dangers, and characterizes what genuine trepidation is and its motivation. I find this book to be very interesting. This book gave feeling of comprehension on savagery and trepidation and I feel greatly improved arranged with regards to perceiving perilous circumstances. My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when an outsider is a potential risk. This was intriguing to me since I've been told since I was only a young girl to be careful with outsiders. Be that as it may, with every one of these notices about outsiders I had never been advised how to perceive when an outsider was by and large really accommodating and agreeable, or attempting to mischief me in any capacity. I found that some of the warning signs were interesting, for example, a strategy called Forced Teaming.…

I do not necessarily believe in the current definition and widespread belief of fear and its negative connotation. Webster dictionary defines fear as:”an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat”. I believe that fear is the bodies rational response to complex emotions to an uncertain situation. The disconnect between rational and irrational causes the body to respond in a manner commonly defined as fear. The perception or feeling of fear is often descried with a negative connotation due to its relation to danger, pain and threat. However the same feeling of”fear” is also shown in positive situations of uncertainty like falling in love or trust in others. Fear to me is…

What is fear? Everyone has experienced some level fear before, may it be when they realized they have done something wrong, when they kept seeing that one creepy guy down the street just standing outside their door, while sitting at home at twelve o’clock in the morning watching a horror film, or encountering their one or many phobias. When fear hits, the body will start to feel as if it is frozen, breathing becomes difficult, the heart races and batters to the point where it feels like it will burst from their chest. So, just what in the world does the word fear truly mean? Well based on my own experiences with fear, I believe that it is the feeling of extreme anxiety or horror towards an object, a person, a place, an event in time, or a scene played before someone’s eyes; which in turn causes the rate of one’s heart to race, and breathing to accelerate.…

Where I come from fear isn’t a word you hear very often. When used to describe one’s self it is rarely used in conversation. Fear of you, fear of me, fear to be and fear to dream. These are the true feelings of my people or shall I say people dealing with reality. One may say “I ain’t never scared “, whatever those are the ones with the most freights. Franklin D. Roosevelt once said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.”…

I suppose you are wondering why I am speaking of fear as an educational topic. To begin we will have to take a trip back in time. August of 2003 was an exciting and fearful time in my life. The months to come would be uncertain and frightful. My, now, husband was graduating high school and our future was coming at us fast. I was certain in my career path of nursing. My husband, on the other hand, was undecided. We had already been together for two years. I knew I would marry that man. We were planning our lives together at the young ages 18 and 20.…
