Introduction: Have you ever been scared and curious at the same time? Lemon, a 17 year old girl who never met her dad, moved around a lot, got pregnant, embarks on a trip to find her father. Paragraph 1: The plot of the story begins when 17 year old Lemon moves from town to town, state to state because Lemons mother, Stella runs away from her problems which are caused from her past failed relationships. Lemon has a baby on the way and the dad is a 27 year old guy that works in a tattoo shop. He doesn’t know she has his baby on the way because Stella and Lemon moved away. Lemon embarks on a trip to find her dad with her friend Emmy, but Emmy has no idea that the reason Lemon went there was to find her dad.

She has a baby on way and the father is also her mother’s ex boyfriend. Stella, Lemons mother, whenever you read about her, she will always have a drink in her hand which portrays her to be an alcoholic. Stella is always moving her and Lemon around. Lemons best friend, Emmy is a sweet girl but also loves to smoke, drink, and party, but she’s always by Lemons side helping her through tough times.
Paragraph 3: The theme of this book is a mix of love, lust, discovery, and escape. Lemon is looking for love with guys and she’s trying to feel something, but she just gives herself to guys. Lemon lusts for journey and discovery to find her father and now she’s going to be a mother. Lemon also wants to escape from moving around too much and escape the emptiness of her father.
Paragraph 4: The climax in the story is when Lemon goes to find her dad with her friend Emmy. Emmy doesn’t know that’s the real reason why Lemon wants to go to San Francisco. When Lemon and Emmy get there, Lemon tells Emmy the reason why she went there. Emmy stayed with her until she heard the news about her dad. The real climax starts happening when Lemon goes to see her dad at a house her mother told her about on Valencia Street. Lemon meets her dad, her dad and his girlfriend Cassy get into a fight because she didn’t know that he had a daughter. Lemon get’s to know them, she meets a boy named Aiden and she really likes him. Lemon tells her mother that she’s staying longer. Her mother doesn’t agree but has no way to come and get her. All of this put stress on Lemon. Out of all of this stress she had no idea she was anemic because none of the doctors told her until it was too late. When Lemon lost the baby it brought everyone together. Emmy stayed home because she didn’t have the money. Stella, her dad, Cassi, and Aiden went to the hospital and was right by Lemons side.
Paragraph 5: The conflict in this book is just about in every page you read.
There’s conflict in every chapter. The conflict that Emmy deals with is being pregnant from a 27 year that works at a tattoo shop and he has no idea. When Lemon goes to San Francisco she finds out that she’s anemic and needs to watch what she eats. This explains why she’s been passing out and not feeling right. Later in the book Lemon loses her baby because she didn’t watch how she ate. Lemon’s mother, Stella, hates dealing with Lemon and her problems. Lemon and Stella used to be very close when Lemon was younger. Her mother was happier but Stella’s past relationships made Stella sad. She would always go through hard break ups and drink all the time. There’s also conflict with Emmy. Her dad was stationed in Afghanistan for the second time and he lost one of his legs in an explosion. Lemons dad also has conflict, he doesn’t know how to deal with having a daughter. He knew but he never contacted either of them and he regrets
it.
Paragraph 6: The setting in this book is modern day. They have cars, phones, just about everything we have today. The book tells that it’s modern because Lemon has a cell phone, a modern day cell phone. The things they did in the book seemed to relate to some of the things we do today. The mood in the book is mostly sadness. Her mother is always drinking and won’t tell her a whole lot about her father. Lemon is getting tired of Stella and her boyfriends. She’s also sad because she lost her child. She would lock herself in the bathroom and lay on the floor and cry. She wouldn’t go anywhere with anyone for days.
Paragraph 7: The protagonist in this book is Lemon. She is so brave when she is going through all of this trouble. She is the main character of this story. Throughout all of the trouble she went through to find her dad and try and give birth she found herself. She found out her real self, along with her mother and father. She truly is a hero to young readers. Her character teaches you to be humble in the worst of times.
Conclusion: Anyone who reads this book can see the message behind the book. The message is to never give up no matter what. The author works really hard to send a message to young readers and maybe even older ones. The book is truly amazing.
