The chances of a person to go to the NBA and play professional basketball are three in ten thousand, .03 percent of people are able to make it to the NBA. That is why wanting to be a professional player for any sport is “unrealistic” for most people. You have to be a gifted player to make it to the pros.
A first team All-American college basketball forward at the University of Maryland. That’s who Len Bias was. He was a humble player with extremely high expectations and a favorite of many because of his size, athleticism, and passion for the game of basketball. He had dreamt of becoming an NBA player ever since he was a little kid growing up in a road house in Maryland and doing nothing but basketball was his life. He and his little brother would play for hours under the pouring rain or the blistering sun as their friendship grew stronger everyday.
Hard work pays off and after all the dedication that Len had put on his dream finally paid off. The day had finally come. Len Bias is dressed in a slick white suit with light gray pinstripes. as David Stern comes up to the podium in the 1986 NBA Draft on June 17, held in New York City at Madison Square Garden, the defending NBA champion Celtics had the second overall pick and had no question on who they wanted to draft in order to get back to back titles. Bias would bring a strong, young core to the already experienced team with mostly veterans.
