Leo's Character From 'The Journey To The East'
Through The Journey to the East, it is shown just how indispensable Leo is to the League. Different aspects and characteristics that Leo possesses makes it so that the League could not afford to be without him. With Leo, the League was able to be successful in whatever they did. Leo was a helpful, humble servant who always had whatever the League could possibly need at any time. In order to be successful, every part of a group or organization needs to “pull their own weight” at all times. This was especially true through the League, especially with the case of having Leo. Even though Leo was considered a servant of the League and on “black and white” was not considered a large part of the League, all that he displayed through his characteristics made for him to be indispensable. He was able to turn his small role of being a servant to that of a role that could not be replaced by another person. Leo was someone who always had what the League needed, no matter what it was. Although his pack that he traveled with was no bigger than any of the other people of the League, through their journey Leo was able to make sure that whatever the League needed was there and available for them. Whether it be small or large, it seemed that Leo had it all. By Leo having this characteristic upon him, he made himself indispensable in the eyes of all that …show more content…
No matter what the League needed, Leo was present to be as helpful as he could possibly be. With him being this helpful, his characteristic trait of being humble makes it so that he is even more indispensable. By Leo being humble, it made it so that his ego and pride did not get in the way of his work. When doing this, he makes it so that he is able to help with even more events and situations. With these two characteristics combined, he made himself extremely indispensable to the League

A leader is a person who has the ability to lead or command an entire group of people, a leader is someone who is followed by other people. Being a leader is a wonderful privilege, it is something that is not necessarily handed to an individual nor is it something that can be bought, leadership is something that is earned. This entire course we have been learning about and discussing various characteristics of effective leaders. Some of those characteristics included confidence, charisma, courage, heart, perseverance, and among many others. This paper will focus primarily on one individual who exemplifies these traits and many other characteristics which contributes greatly to his success as a leader. The person that has been selected for the basis of this paper is Ray Lewis, a twelve year pro-bowl selection linebacker from the Baltimore Ravens. The reason I have chosen Lewis for this paper is because of the qualities he has as a leader not only on the playing field, but off of it as well. He is what I believe to be the best and most motivational and inspirational player in the National Football League today, maybe even all sports. The object of this paper is to elaborate on Lewis' characteristics and provide an explanation of his leadership style and why they are effective. This paper will begin by giving an in depth analysis of Ray. After the analysis it will then move into discussing Ray's styles of leadership. After talking about Lewis' styles it will then begin going through all his characteristics as a leader and what makes him stand out as a leader, in other words, I will explain why Ray Lewis is such a powerful and effective leader and the reason he stands out to people other than his organization.…

Of all the qualities that he exhibited in his immense success, the dominant was his ability to concentrate on his sole purpose: winning the game. Coach Lombardi saw ‘winning’ both as a goal and as a reality. Vince Lombardi knew the game before he became a coach and understood it better than someone who had not played the game. In sport, it is ludicrous to think of hiring a coach who has not played the game simply because he would find it hard to impress the players and gain their respect. In the same manner, in business terms, a manager would lack credibility. In search of excellence, it is important to notice that, in most excellent companies, the person at the top has an intimate knowledge of the product or service being delivered. The advantage of having such a person is that, by the time that person reached the top, most of those in the company knew they had a leader that understood the business and what would be needed to improve the…

In 1986 the New York Mets defeated the Boston red sox in the 7th game of the World Series. The media world exploded, stating that they were “destined to win” and that they were “a team of winners”. In reality that is not how it went. They captured the title with the help of one teammate. His leadership brought it home. Having leadership on a team also makes other teammates better; it pushes them to the next level and makes people want to play like them. Having a leader on your team, is having someone who is completely devoted to the team. If you didn’t have that one player who always does what is best for the team, you wouldn’t win. Teams with players that possess leadership skills typically have a better overall team. Team chemistry, confidence and win percentage all increase. If you want to be a successful sports team, having a player who demonstrates leadership is key.…

Leadership is defined as “a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. In my opinion, leadership is one of the most desirable qualities that a person can possess. No matter the environment, leaders are needed in every aspect of life. Children need leaders to help them develop, students need leaders to help them learn, and teams need leaders to help the group achieve a common goal. But the real question emerges, how does one become a leader? Are leaders born, or do they rise to the occasion? How do leaders get their peers to rally around their actions? Former National Football League linebacker Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens epitomizes what a leader should be on the field. Lewis was a linebacker for 17 seasons (1996-2012) for the Baltimore Ravens, and the early 2000’s Ravens defense is considered one of the greatest units in sports history. However, while Ray Lewis was viewed as one of the best on the field leaders in NFL history, however his legacy, reputation, and image were tainted by actions away from the playing field.. How is it that a figure like Ray Lewis could be so revered on the field, but off the field he was heavily criticized for his actions and behavior? Throughout this essay I will analyze Ray Lewis’ upbringing and discuss how he developed his leadership qualities that caused former teammate Jamal Lewis to say, “In recent history, I can’t really think of a player who has been as valuable to a team as Ray Lewis has been. He’s a different player, as far as his physicality, his passion off the field, his work ethic, and at the same time he can lead vocally. You don’t have all of that in one player, and I think that’s what makes him a Hall of Famer and probably the best linebacker to ever play the game.” (Belmont 41). I will draw on Lewis’ leadership qualities and compare and contrast them to figures we studied throughout the semester…

For example, Coach White is the one who takes the responsibility for the first loss of the team. He could of blamed the team, or he could of gotten furious at them for not winning. Instead, he chose to take the responsibility by himself. He never reinforces the team to emulate the other teams. Instead, he tells the team that it is his fault for not training them on hills, and he even finds a place with hills for them to practice. He also takes the responsibility for having the Diaz family in their team by adjusting their practice time to not overlap with the Diaz’s job as pickers. All the responsibilities he took over for the team shows that he truly cares for the…
