LESSON PLAN for Grade 2

Objectives: The learner will be able to describe a cloud and its functions with rain. Learn how to make a rain stick and recognize the sequence of beats in music.

Rationale: The children need to learn about the environment and the functions of clouds and rain. The children need to know how to count and recognize beats in a musical song. Howard Gardner said integrated curriculum is beneficial to students.

State Requirements: TEKS/STAAR: §112.13. Science, Grade 2 (8) Earth and space. The student knows that there are recognizable patterns in the natural world and among objects in the sky. The student is expected to: (A) measure, record, and graph weather information, including temperature, wind conditions, precipitation, and cloud coverage, in order to identify patterns in the data; (C) explore the processes in the water cycle, including evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, as connected to weather conditions §117.9. Music, Grade 2 (b) Knowledge and skills. (2) Creative expression/performance. The student performs a varied repertoire of music. The student is expected to: (A) sing or play a classroom instrument independently or in groups

Prerequisite Skills: Children will need to know how to cut and paste and listen to music.

Special Needs Student Accommodations/Modifications/Extensions: Deaf child will need preparation lesson the day before to hear the music that will be played.

Description of the Learning Environment: This is a whole group lesson that will start on the carpet in a circle. The children will discuss the facts about clouds. The whole group will separate and return to their individual seats to complete a craft. After craft is completed, the individuals will return to the carpet. The music will keep their attention.
