Letter To Filipo Brunelleschi
Dear utmost respected admissions officers, I am Donatello, a trusted friend of Filipo Brunelleschi. Long ago, before I had become a respected sculptor, and worked as a goldsmith under Lorenzo Ghiberti, Brunelleschi’s rival, we met. Considering I am nine years his junior I always looked up to Filipo and admired his art. Consequently, in 1402, we went on a journey to Rome to study the ruins, and while I simply saw crumbling building, Filipo saw more- he was inspired by the architecture, and has pursued architectural innovation ever since.

I could go on and on about Brunelleschi’s projects- but you should be more concerned about what makes his structures unique- and what makes him brilliant. Remarkably, he revolutionized architecture by incorporating art, anyone could see the similarities between his sculptures and buildings. Instead of an erratic style of art he uses geometry. It should also be noted that Filipo developed this perspective himself and this is what makes Filipo Brunelleschi the finest architect in Europe, and more importantly, Italy.

Although a great architect, Filipo is also an inventive engineer and planner. Extraordinarily, ee has patented, his riverboat and there are also several projects, building and rebuilding military fortifications around Italy, not to mention all he has done for the Church. The Church has always been important to him, Filipo has always believed that his use of geometry and numbers is to support Christian spiritual reality.
