1) Niccolo Machiavelli: Italian politician, historian, and writer. Wrote The Prince, a book on how to control nations with fear
2) Johannes Gutenburg: German inventor of the printing press
3) Donatello: Early Italian renaissance painter and sculptor, best known for his sculpture "David"
4) Fillippo Brunelleschi: Italian architect and engineer, designer of the dome of the Cathedral of Florence, or la Duomo
5) Henry VII of England: King of England from August 22, 1485 to April 21, 1509. After the War of Roses, restored political stability in England
6) Lorenzo Valla: (1406-1457) The Father of Modern Historical Criticism. Wrote On Pleasure, which "defends the pleasures of the senses as the highest goods"
7) Pico della Mirandola: Wrote the essay, On the Dignity of Man, , stressing that man possesses great dignity since they were made in the image of God. Believed humans were in between animals and angels, and had no limits to what they could do.
8) Raphael: (1438-1520) Florentine Renaissance painter, most famed for his hundreds of portraits
9) Michelangelo: Florentine painter, sculptor, and architect. Painted the alter wall of the Sistine Chapel
10) Leonardo de Vinci: Painter, sculptor, inventor, scientist, and mathematician, known as the Father of the Renaissance. Best known for the "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper", also painted "Lady with an Ermine". Thought up, but did not make many things today, such as tanks, helicopter, machine guns, parachutes, etc. Studied human anatomy by performing autopsies on the bodies of hanged criminals
11) Desiderius Erasmus: (1466-1536) Dutch Humanist, wrote The Praise of Folly and The Education of a Christian Prince. Believed "education is means to reform" and the "philosophy of Christ"
12) Cisimo de'Medici: Member of the powerful Italian Medici family, ruled Florence "behind the scence"
13) Girolamo Savonarola: Dominican friar who predicted the French Invasion of Florence, became the religious leader of
