Li Zhi Wang ESL 33A Nov. 30. 2014 Compare and Contrast the Education System in China with the United States Education System

After the appearance of the culture, an important native service came into public, which is education. However, different countries have different forms of educations. According to my experiences in American college. I’d like to say that there have huge differences between China and the United Sates. In my opinion, the differences between these two education can be seen in terms of the teaching style, entrance requirements and exercises. The first difference is teaching style, which is the biggest difference caused by values and traditions. In China, students do not have group work. They only need to listen to the teacher and take notes. But English students have a lot of group work instead of only listening to the teacher and taking notes. Relative to China, the English teacher are friendlier and the class are more relaxed. In the United States, students express their opinions and focus on experimentation. However, in China, students mainly focus on the knowledge and the books, and try to remember everything that maybe contained in the exam. Thus, education in China and America education system differ in the aspects of teaching style. Secondly, the entrance requirements for college are also different. In China, the only way to get into a good university is through GaoKao ( Chinese SAT ). For example, a student in high school has to study everyday, even through the weekend, and he has to take extra classes beyond high school. He also don’t have much resting time just because he know that after go to a famous university, any pressures will be finished. The reason is that Chinese universities are difficult to enter but easy to graduate. However, on the other hand,

Wu Zhao’s rise to ultimate power was not without struggle. Born to the loyal royal official Wu Shiyue in ~624CE, Wu Zhao was privileged enough to learn music, writing, and other subjects not all women had access to. From her very beginning, Wu Zhao was ruthless in her aspirations for power. For example, to dispose of Emperor Gaozong’s wife, Empress Wang, Wu Zhao killed her own daughter by suffocating her and framed Empress Wang for the murder. In 655CE, Gaozong promoted Wu Zhao to the position of Empress in place of the now disgraced Wang. Before long the former empress and many others that stood in the way of Wu Zhao’s rise to glory were picked off one by one, securing Wu Zhao’s place at the top. Then Wu Zhao began her political career with intense effort, for her goal was to become the first female-emperor of China.…

Another striking difference of the education between China and Australia is the study atmosphere. In China, the classroom atmosphere is formal whereas the Australian classroom atmosphere is informal. For example, Chinese students are not allowed to ask questions in class. All of what they do is listen to the teacher carefully, answer questions exactly and remember every word said by the teacher. On the contrary in Australia, students have more time to discuss and more chances to get answers. Furthermore, whereas Chinese classes don't have a great deal of interaction between students but Australian classes do.…

In “The Educated Giant” written by Nicholas D. Kristof, he explains why China is likely to over take the United States as the worlds most important country of the century due to its large focus on education. In the article, Kristof talks about his trip to China and the education system he observed. Beginning with peasant schools, he discovered the level of math being taught was equal to his children’s excellent schools in the New York area. While his children won’t learn a language in school until seventh grade, Chinese students begin English as young as first grade. Kristof gave reasons as to why he believes Chinese students do so well. First, is because they are harder workers. Students show up to school at 6:30 a.m. for tutoring before classes start at 7:30 a.m. They also do homework every night, including when they are out of school for an eight week summer vacation. The second reason Kristof gives is because China has an enormous cultural respect for education, part of its Confucian Legacy. Teachers are better paid and treated superior to educators in America. The third reason given is because the Chinese believe that those who get the best grades are the hardest workers. This contrasts popular American belief that the best students are ones who are innately the smartest. Kristof then touches on the fact that Chinese has its own faults, including bribes, enormous fees and over crowded classrooms.…
