Anne describes the Annex in the story from the moment they entered a secret room through a door hidden behind a bookcase. The bookcase and secluded door were at the bottom of a stairwell. When first entering the room, straight ahead was the Frank’s room. To the right appeared the bathroom and another staircase. On the weekends, the families hiding played games, talked, and practiced the Jewish religion. When it was not the weekend, the families could not move much or talk through most of the daylight hours. This was because there were still people working in the building and if any of them heard people in the attic, they would turn them into the Nazi’s. The children usually worked on school work while the adults would talk, cook, or teach the kids.
