The novel Life of Pi written by Yaan Martel is a story about a vegetarian religious boy, Pi who survives a near death experience. He is the only one who survives the shipwreck and is left alone on a lifeboat along with a tiger Richard Parker.
This novel explains us the true meaning of survival and not to give up when the situation gets tough. The idea of survival is portrayed throughout the whole book. The author shows us how an indian boy who knows nothing about what to do when stranded on a lifeboat has to start fending for himself. I refuse it. I will make it through this nightmare. I will beat the odds, as great as they are. I have survived so far. Now I will turn miracle into routine. The amazing will be seen every day. I will put in all the hard work necessary.I will not die. Amen.” This quote told me that even though Pi has spent months on the boat without any civilization except for the tiger he has not gone crazy. He has always found away out of his tricky situation everyday when he needed to survive, he has kept his guard up. Which led him to wash up across the shore of Mexico. If he had not seen the bright side to the situations he faced he would have not have survived. The author sends across a real important message towards society that no matter what circumstances you are facing, you will always learn to adapt to how things are and move forward with life. This is shown when the traumatic experience on the boat occured Pi did not seize his life but instead he embraced his new life and recovered from his past.
This novel was a true eye opener as it makes you realise how important it is to move forward and not to dwell to much on the past. That when disaster strikes it’s important to survive through it so you can learn from
