The brush itself has an eye on it and is shedding light across the painting. On the top left of the painting there are people of different ethnicities who are colored a dark yellow. On the bottom right there are demons from different cultures which are painted a dark black. A light blue lightning comes from the brush covering all within the painting.

Reading the book Blue Cascade by Mike Scotti, who by the way is a brilliant writer, was a very whole-hearted and touching story. This book was about a Marine who returned home from a two-year tour duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. He didn’t feel the same when he returned home and knew that something was wrong. He suffered from post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but after a while he overcame it. As he began to heal, he said, “ The plan was to go to graduate school to get an MBA.…

In the book Maniac Magee, the author Jerry Spinelli used details, dialogue, action, and thoughts to create a main character named Maniac ( Jeffrey) Magee. Maniac Magee was introduced into the book by telling who Maniac Magee was. To me, I think that Maniac Magee was helpful, for example, in the beginning, Maniac was introduced to Amanda Beale. Amanda was on her way to school and she was carrying her suitcase that was full of books she called it her “library”.…

“It is a sin to write this.” begins the story of Anthem. By the end of the story, Equality 7-2521 has a different moral assessment of his actions, but was the eventual assessment of his actions correct? His eventual evaluation being that of seeing this as a breaking of bonds with collectivity, an achievable freedom and disregard of the Council. In all terms, this judgment is correct, indifferent to the few flaws it may have. This can be proven through evidence from the book.…

Gary Nash author of Red, White, and Black purpose to their readers is describing the early colonists, but also the relationships toward Europeans, the Indians, and the Africans. Nash successfully analyzes the impact of the colliding three cultures and interprets them to give an overall theme about the relationships between those who made America what it is today. He has shown another point of view to his reader that we grew up and was raise in a white people land; learning only the White people point of view through history. His purpose of writing Red, White & Black was to prove that Native Americans and Africans were not victims, but played as a active role to American history.…

By demonstrating the romantic nativity of the West’s outlook on Indigenous people, Emma Lee Warrior’s short story Compatriots dismantles the dominant view on Indigenous people, illustrating the ignorance of the West’s stereotypes. The romanization of the Indigenous culture results in generalisation of Indigenous culture, contrasting feelings between the west and the Indigenous, as well as patronising ideals. To begin, Lee Warrior breaks out of stereotypical archetypes of Indigenous people created from the westerners’ perspective. For instance, addressing the diversity within the Indigenous groups. As Hilda boldly assumes, Lucy has done sun-dances before, because it’s her culture.…

We face choices each and everyday of our life, these choices define who we are and who we become, and each of these choices have a cost, if chocolate is chosen over vanilla then vanilla is lost. For every choice there is a consequence and a beneficial factor, the decision is presented and the question is are the consequences of our actions minimal enough that they may be overlooked? The story NightJohn by Gary Paulsen tells the story of a young girl and her so called family in the midst of slavery, the girl's name is Sarny and she desires knowledge but in such a time as slavery the cost for knowledge is extremely high, as high as death sometimes. The choice is presented, that decision must be made, is the risk worth the reward? Do the pros outweigh the cons?…

Taking a more in depth look at the different areas of this painting, we see a group of Indians fleeing from the oncoming civilization. We see a mother and child sitting on a travois being pulled by a horse, one Indian has his tomahawk raised and another with a bow and arrow look back with a scowl on their faces. However there are some other Indians and teepees in the foreground that appear to be doing some sort of chant possibly to ward off these intruders from their…

The Austin Community located on the Westside of Chicago is plagued by a series of problems involving African American youth between the ages of 7-17. One of the problems is that many of these youth participate in gang affiliation, drug use, crime, unhealthy eating habits and sexual habits, gang and domestic violence, abuse, bullying, teen pregnancy and the list goes on. Another major reason why the Austin area is plagued by some many social concerns is due to poverty. This harsh reality is also stated in the Chicago data mapping which states, “35.6% of Austin residents live below the poverty level” (). Being that my internship site BUILD is located in the Austin Community and that I intern and work with the youth at Leland Elementary in this community all of the youth participants I work with are currently affected or associated with these issues in some way.…

In The Embers and the Stars by Kohák the intersection of time and eternity is expressed. Kohák has focused on "natural" time, which is to say that time is not just what is expressed by a clock, or with a series of numbers on a clock. "It is, rather, set within the matrix of nature's rhythm which establishes personal yet non-arbitrary reference points." This means that time is not measured in seconds, minutes, or hours but by personal existence and experience. These "reference points" are experiences in your life that are meaningful and you help spatially distinguish points in time. Time as we know it is explained by Kohák as a "construct imposed upon nature's rhythm, subordination and ordering it". He does say that it is a useful construct, but as for the theory of relativity time does not hold up.…
