Light Rail Crime Research Paper

Many people believe that crime at light rail station does not exist. Light rail station crime has risen due to security not being present or performing their job duties. Security are placed on platforms to help riders to get to their destination safely.Security has reduce the intensity to perform their duties as a security guard, and this is a major issue. Charlotte light rails was first built in 2007, Charlotte Mecklenburg public transportation hired 200 security officers to run the 9.6 mile light rail from morning to midnight, and so on. There was crime but crime drastically increase in the summer of 2010. The security that was originally there left or got fired. They are known to have a large turn over rate. This was a assumption from the city data that stated, that the large turn over rate could be the answer to this issue. This problem can be easily solve if the proper steps are taken correctly. Therefore, if security perform their job duties and are present at each platform of the light rail crime would decrease.

There are data boards that shows crime decreasing in certain areas of the light rail stations not the entire area. The total number of crime decline is about 15%, but this number does not show a large amount of depreciation from 2010 until now. Many people are going by data that has been reported and statistics that is representing some of the crime .The data board is a big reason why people feel that crime has decreased because of the numbers that have been reported. This is not factual information, this information represents just some of the crime.
