Tita’s great niece is narrating the story.
2. What happened to bring on Mama Elena’s early delivery of Tita?
Tita was crying while Mama Elena was chopping onions one day and this caused the early delivery of Tita.
3. Where was Tita born?
Tita was born in the kitchen.
4. How come it was not necessary to slap Tita on the bottom at birth?
Tita didn’t need to be slapped on the bottom because she was already crying.
5. Why did Tita feel a deep love for the kitchen?
Tita feels love for the Kitchen because she was brought up in the kitchen by Nacha, who was the house cook.
6. Explain what happened to Tita when she was two days old?
“When she was only two days old Tita’s father, my great-grandfather, died of a heart attack and Mama Elena’s milk dried up from the shock”(6).
7. Explain the relationship between Tita and Nacha. What made their relationship special?
Tita and Nacha are like mother and daughter. Their relationship is so special because Nacha was Tita’s playmate, they did everything together in the kitchen.
8. What made it possible for Nacha to nourish Tita and impossible for Mam Elena?
Nacha is like a second mother to Tita and she has taken care of Tita since she was born. Mama Elena couldn't raise her because she had a lot of duties on the ranch.

Nacha is something like her mother figure. Tita grew up in the kitchen and Nacha is the house cook so she always clings to Nacha especially when she has a problem in. Mama Elena is very mean to Tita and takes away her chance for love. This is why they are not close.
