*If Rose's father was the narrator then we, the readers would know why he left Rose and how he felt when Rain was lost. We would see the book from his point of view. This novel would be different because we then would not know Rose's feelings. I think the book is better off with Rose narrating.
I think Rose keeps her list of homonyms because she has an obsession with homonyms and it keeps her occupied. She keeps the list in alphabetical order and so, when she thinks of a new homonym and there is no space she has to rewrite it. Throughout the story, we also learn that Rose is Autistic and she finds comfort in words and numbers. Rose does not use a computer because she and her father cannot afford to buy one.

Rose does not have any siblings or a mother and her father is not very caring. Which makes Rain the closest thing she has to a real family. Pets play a big role in the lives of people who love them. They entertain their owners, are loving and are always there when in need of a friend. And since Rose has a hard time interacting with people, her relationship with Rain is very important to her.
When Rose’s father let Rain out during the storm, he did it without any bad intentions. But, I think he was not being responsible and was careless in not putting on Rain’s collar. Even though it wasn’t purposely done, it could have been prevented.
I think Rose’s Uncle Weldon is more patient with Rose because he takes her to school, talks to her about homonyms and is there for her when her father is not. Rose is like the daughter that Uncle Weldon never had, since he himself does not have a family of his own. And he becomes a father figure to Rose, that she never
