The environment, the plot, the conflict and the resolution of the story is also artistically defined by the setting which takes place during a Storm. Due the storm effecting every action of the character, plot and setting it is hard to not just recount the story. Kate utilized the brewing of the storm to keep Bobinot and Bibi, husband and son of Calixta who was away from home at Friedheimers store to provide privacy for the upcoming events. Likewise, she used the same storm to bring in warm winds that caused Calixta who was busy sewing to not initially see the storm to become warm and sweaty causing her to “unfasten her white sacque at the throat”. I was able to get a good visual as I read it and it made me reflect on situations I see every day as a registered nurse. Daily interact with patients who a get poor prognosis, which then makes them go through stage of grief. The stage I noted to be similar to Granny is the immediate thoughts of denial that starts them to begin reflecting and reminiscing on things that they will miss or have a connection to. This is often short lived as they later become angry at those around them. My nursing background provided me with the early dose of empathy that was needed to connect to story but it was that grounded cognition that we taught about earlier in the semester that kept my interest and development of my compassion for Granny
