In seventh grade, I began analyzing and breaking down articles, and this was the first time we did something that was not centered on grammar and spelling. By this time I felt that my English classes in school were not good enough to fulfil the level of English I wanted, so on the weekends I started to attend classes at a private English institute. In my English Institute class in Paraguay, I was expected to read, write, and practice answering exams in English and, additionally, it was exceptionally supportive for me since I could learn the proper sounds for every word. At that moment I felt that my endeavors during school paid off, because this preparation helped me pass the TOEFL and SAT exams with high scores rather effortlessly, and I was elated when I discovered my scores were above average. In order to pass these exams, I had to be literate in English because I had to write essays, fix some sentences with grammatical issues and comprehend articles in English. The tough work of taking English classes simultaneously with Spanish and chess classes helped me prepare for these critical moments that decided where I would spend my future. These exams helped me obtain half a scholarship with the chess program. Furthermore, being good with computers, especially in computer programming, gave me an opportunity to receive the other half a scholarship to obtain a full scholarship to stay here in the United States and attend
