Aspirin, Caffeine and Salicylamide were extracted from an over-the-counter pain reliever (BC Powder). These components were separated by manipulating their solubilities by adjusting the acidity and basicity of the solution. By doing this, the three components were forced into conjugate acid (or base) forms, causing selective solubility in either an aqueous or organic solvent. These layers were then separated by use of a separation funnel. Once separated, the components extracted were characterized by measuring the melting point and performing a TLC analysis. Also, the recovered aspirin from the first part of the experiment was recrystallized and compared to that of the isolated aspirin.…
In trial one the percent mass of NaNO2 in the unknown mixture was 59.30%. In trial two, the percent mass of NaNO2 was 63.47%. Lastly in trial three, it was determined that the percent mass of NaNO2 was 60.11%. Based on these results the average percent mass of the NaNO2 was 60.96% with a standard deviation of 2.209. Lastly, the percent relative standard deviation was determined to be 3.623. Thus, the percent precision was found to be 96.38% suggesting that the process used to determine these results was fairly consistent.…
8. A 50/50 mixture of dichloromethane and ethanol was added to the crushed analgesic tablets to fully dissolve the tablets because the whole tablet will not dissolve as it contained not only the analgesic, but also binders, buffering agents and other components that would not make the tablet to fully dissolve in just a polar solvent.…
Renal clearance of quantam dots: - Nanotechnology hold great promise of diagnosis and treatment of human disease. Using quantam dots in rodents as model, requirement can be defined for urinary excretion and renal filtration of inorganic.…
A major hurdle that has prevented the commercialization of many promising poorly soluble drug candidates is dissolution rate-limited bioavailability or permeation rate-limited bioavailability. Buccal route of administration provides better penetration of therapeutic and diagnostic agents, and a reduced risk in comparison to conventional treatments. This leads to greater therapeutic efficacy, provides a more comfortable administration for the patient and allows preventing over dose.…
The patient should inhale the medication rapidly. Otherwise the dry particles will stick to the…
After the experiment, I thought and considered that my hypothesis was correct. It had been that the half crushed tablet had dissolved much faster then the other types of tablet. By increasing the surface area the reaction rate of the tablet will dissolve much faster.…
It is estimated that 800,000 children go missing per year. That's more than 2,000 children per day. On Christmas Eve 1945, five children went missing. The youngest child being five and the oldest being fourteen. Many people argue that the five children didn’t go missing, but that they died in a house fire that same night. But there are many reasons that no one can say for certain if they did or did not die. The five Sodder childrens case was one of the most mysterious cases ever.…

It was proved in many studies that using PVP as a carrier for poorly water soluble drugs improves their solubility, and hence enhance the bioavailability. Shah J. et al. (2009) reported linear increase in valdecoxib solubility increases and enhancement of dissolution rate as PVP-K30 concentration. This enhancement may be related to wettability improvement and reduction in the crystallinity (82).…
The grinded up pills were then weighed. The grinded up pills were placed in separate beakers each containing 10 ml of Acetone. Once the pills had dissolved in the acetone, a vacuum filtration, using a hirsch funnel, was performed in order to separate out the insoluble components of the pill. The solids were…
There are several methods of drug administration. They are: oral which is by mouth, its effect is slower and less efficient because they must be absorbed in the small intestine and then, depending on their molecular structures, are broken down or activated in the liver before being transported to the correct area of action (GCU, 2012). Another route is sublingual or buccal. These methods rely on the capillaries under the tongue or in the cheek for quick absorption. Medications such as nitroglycerin are given this way (GCU, 2012). A third method is topical. Medications given topically are applied to the skin and absorbed as they diffuse through the epidermis (GCU, 2012). A forth way is rectal. Medications may also be absorbed by the capillaries in the rectum. This is a useful route in patients who cannot take medications by mouth due to nausea, vomiting, or extreme disease of the mouth (GCU, 2012). A final way would be parenteral. This method involves administering medication intravenously, intradermal, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and intrathecally (GCU, 2012). The best and most preferred route to give medication is orally. The…
I’m sorry that Hassan and I left so abruptly, but it was the only choice we had. I had forgiven you for your act of conceiving a child with my beloved and decided to continue to live under you and raise Hassan as my own, but the actions taken by Amir were what pushed us to that decision. Amir clearly did not want Hassan around and certainly did not think of him as a brother. A brother would never let his fellow blood be defiled in such a heinous way. Amir pushed Hassan from his life and clearly wanted him gone, pretending he had stolen Amir’s money and watch. In the end, Amir got what he wished for when we left, but in return he dishonoured his blood.…

One benefit to nanotechnology is the ability to practice a better cancer treatment. The technology could monitor and control how the chemotherapy drugs are administered into the body, and assign them go exactly where they need to go be distributed. This is an alternative to standard radiation and chemotherapy cancer treatments, where not only the cancerous cells are treated, but the healthy cells around the affected area are treated too. “Each of these researchers relied on ultrasound bubbles, which consist of microscopic particles equipped with cancer-fighting drugs. At room temperature, the particles remain stable, but when exposed to body temperature, they join together to form larger particles. Using ultrasound waves, scientists can send signals to…
