Living in love
Living in LOVE
Tamarra Subramony
South Africa

One morning I walked into the section of the children’s ward in which I work, and was greeted by an intelligible wave of excited chatter and the giggling of mothers. “Do you know what they are saying doctor?” asked the nearest mum. “No,” I replied, feeling intrigued. “They’re saying that when you come in, they feel as if their mother has arrived.”

These simple words stunned me and I was moved to tears. A feeling of overwhelming gratitude to Swami and a sense of oneness with Him washed over me and warmed me to the core. Somehow those words brought home to me just how much LOVE Swami has brought into my life, transforming my outlook and my interaction with others to such an extent that in some tiny way, people are starting to see Him in me.

“ Be about My Work, My Beloved Bhakthas. Your breath will carry the scent of the blossoms of Heaven. Your example will be that of Angels. Your joy will be My Joy.”
(Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba)

What a breathtaking promise!! It is spectacular but true. As Swami’s physical body seems to become smaller and more distant day by day, there is a corresponding exponential growth in His spiritual presence felt in the people around us, be they labelled or unlabelled Sai devotees. More and more we are glimpsing the Divine in the thoughts, words and deeds of those around us. People everywhere seem to be yearning for something more in their lives than material success, it is as if they are just waiting for the opportunity to serve others and will respond to the call in hordes. Many are not even waiting for the opportunity, they are creating their own service projects with a selflessness and zeal which just has SAI written all over it, even if they do not know His physical form. In the same South African newspapers which report unthinkable crime and corruption, we find creeping in regular stories of ‘ordinary’ people with hearts of gold, reaching out to the orphans,

This is Vanesha Winningham, owner and CEO of Pollcypian Insurance Services. I’m sure you are aware of the many years this company has been contracted to clean for our company. Your company has gotten great reviews from us in the past, but within the last year your service has been far from the usual. When I come in each morning, offices are not cleaned thoroughly; there are many of your chemicals left in some of our busiest hallways, and several other messes throughout my business. I have contacted you several times upon the matter and although you assure me the job will be done correct next time, your company still keeps falling up short. The final straw was on last Friday when your night cleaning shift left our office unlocked. From midnight to 8 AM my facility was susceptible to break-ins, which at this point, I cannot risk happen.…

The scene was one of cosy domesticity, a man and a woman sharing breakfast after a night out clubbing together. Married? Lovers? Boyfriend and girlfriend, or just a platonic relationship, it could have been any of the three, and the scene would have been mirrored in many homes across Rome. They were normal. Or at least, together, they contained a semblance of normality, which to Kyle, was almost as eerie a sensation as was the morning after his first murder to know that the woman across from him, the one who’d have reason to never trust another man, or allow one to touch her ever again, had entrusted him to hold her in his arms as she slept. And held no regrets for having done so, and not just that. She’d also revealed details to him of her life experiences that she doubted to spoken of with such earnestness and honesty to anyone before him, and he’d returned the favour without a second thought. With her eyes closed, and her soft breathing, and the faintest of snores, but no drooling, she’d appeared so serene and peaceful, and the Army veteran hoped that he’d been in same way responsible for the lack of nightmares.…

The Giver put his hands in Jonas’ back to transmit the memory. He was in what seemed to be like a sail boat, but it was longer and the color gray. He could also see the boat contained big brown boxes and what looked like huge round weapons. As for the day It was beautiful, the sun was very bright, the sky was blue and no clouds in the sky, and a salty smell. In contrast to all the good things he could see people running to the back of the boat, he didn’t understand why until he realized the boat was sinking. So he did as the others and went to the back of the boat and braced himself in case anything happened. Even after everyone went to the back of the boat it was no use, he could see the peek of the boat getting filled with water. Before he knew it he was in the water swimming, he had fallen out of the boat.…

Kate Chopin’s characterization of Mrs. Mallard makes her a Protagonist (the main character that has to overcome the antagonist, in this case would be Mr. Mallard). “Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband's death.” When she heard about the news she went up to her room crawled up into a ball and cried. When she finally got out of the ball she looked out the window and it was a sunny day, plenty of big puffy white clouds. Usually in stories when there is bad news given it is a gloomy day dark clouds. So personally I believe that this gave her a sign that everything would be better. I thinker she thought that life would be better that's…

“The art of loving”, written by an American psychologist Erich Fromm in 1957, mainly discusses about three aspects: the reasons of love being an art, the theory of love, and the practice of love. He thoughtfully explains that an art of loving requires many effort and knowledge, comprehensively analyzes the theory of love, and specifically introduces the ways of practice the art of loving. Even if the work is done for about fifty years ago, there still have many remarkable ideas that can be appreciate in recent years. I will discuss about some opinions that I agree and disagree with.…

I am sometimes amazed at my own children, the way they get angry if they have to do the dishes twice in one week, the way they act over small bumps and cuts. As a mum, I’ve had to teach myself to admire bloody baby teeth and clean the dirt from scraped knees. However, in my mind, my mother’s voice and that of my grandmother still come into my head. “Oh for goodness sake, you aren’t hurt!” they used to say. For a moment, I want to tell this new generation about my little brother calmly spitting out a…

Engaging the culture of the community is participating in the shaping of the world through affecting people in some way. Engaging with the people in a community can come through many avenues, including service opportunities, jobs, or even just living daily life with an awareness of what is going on and an openness to get involved. Although it can seem small and insignificant on the global scale, putting time into serving those in a community has a large impact and can change the direction of people’s lives. Service opportunities are ideal for Christians to show the love of Christ to those around them, and they allow the person serving to gain a new perspective on life and the needs in the community. As Christian students at Southeastern University, it is imperative that we engage and pour into our community the love and encouragement of Christ that we are being shown everyday on campus so we can not only make an impact, but learn and grow as we serve.…
