There is another survival story mentioned by Laurence Gonzales, in "Deep
Survival" where Gonzales tells about a girl named Juliane Koepcke, who survived a plane crash and took action to save herself. The others who survived the crash on impact just sat there waiting for someone to rescue them, But Juliane managed to survive because she did not wait for someone to come save her, she took actions into her own hands, used knowledge she'd received from her father, and found a river where she was rescued. Gonzales states" searchers are always amazed to find people who have died while in possession of everything they need to survive." That is what selfish is. Having everything you need to live and see your friends and family again and not doing anything. These examples of people saving themselves helps show that surviving does not require one to be selfish.
