London Business School Emba Application Essay
If you could choose any three people who have ever lived to join you for dinner, whom would you invite and why?

Three people that I would love to invite for dinner are Mahatma Gandhi- better known as Father of the Nation (India), Steve Jobs – founder of Apple Inc and Amitabh Bachhan – a leading actor in the Indian film industry.
Mahatma Gandhi, a lawyer by profession, used his simple philosophy and strong foresight to bring down the 300+ years of British rule, paving the way for India’s independence. His principles of Satyagraha (Fight for truth), Non Violence, Non co-operation and Swadeshi (reject foreign made products) movement, were simple but effective. Gandhiji conceived that a strategic, planned and mass approach was required, rather than muscle power, to oust the British rule. Most of the other freedom fighters were trying to make sacrifices for the mother land, but Gandhiji’s principles and leadership not only brought them together under one roof, but also enabled the common man to participate in the movement. His leadership broke all barriers of faith, class, socio-economic status or geography, and enabled him to identify with the masses. He personifies leadership with uncompromising values, a classic example of how strategy and vision helps in achieving long term goals. Even a short time with such an iconic figure would not be short of an asset lasting a lifetime.

Steve Jobs would be second in the list of invitees for dinner. I was moved when I read his speech delivered in 2005 on the Graduate convocation ceremony at Stanford University. I am inspired by his words and closely identify his story of ‘joining the dots’, with some of my own experiences. There are many success stories about rags to riches, but possibly just a few where one experiences the cycle more than once in one’s lifetime. This is what sets Steve apart from the rest. He, at 30, was publicly fired out of Apple, the company that he founded. It’s the way he handled this humility and

There have been many individuals throughout history that have left an indelible impact on their people and the world, but few could rival the difference that Mohandas Gandhi made. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in the British Common Wealth of India. He spent his youth witnessing the injustices that the English purveyed on the Indian people; something that eventually helped him to decide to become a barrister. Shortly after passing the bar, Gandhi was offered a case in South Africa that would require him to live in that country for about 1 year and he readily accepted. Once arriving in South Africa, he almost immediately experienced the prejudice that Indians living there had been enduring. The turning point for him came when he purchased a first class train ticket but was asked to move to the 3rd class coach, simply because he was Indian. When he quietly refused, he was physically thrown from the train. It was at that point that he decided to stay in South Africa to fight discrimination and what had been planned as a 1 year stay turned into 20 years. During that time he created, taught and practiced the concept of satyagraha, a non-violent way of protesting against injustices. (Rosenberg, n.d.) Gandhi believed that freedom could not be taken but must be given willingly and that this concept helped both the oppressor and the oppressed recognize the humanity in each other. The idea of satyagraha would be used by many great civil rights leaders as a way to advance their causes. Because of this, it remains Gahndhi’s greatest contribution to political change.…

The area we assessed during this Saturday afternoon was downtown Jamestown. As it could be expected there were not a lot of people out being a weekend. There are museums and theaters in honor of Lucille Ball which act as a tourist attraction. The Lucille Ball Little Theater was started in 1936 and it was where the famous actor started her career. A quick search on the internet indicates that most of the buildings were built before a long time ago and most of them are apartments with a few others being single family homes. The community is considered the lower end class where a majority of the residents are Americans of the African origin, Hispanics and Latinos. Some of the housing units are a really deplorable condition and need fixing. The community has three parks that are maintained by county officials for the residents. One of the parks has been installed with a skateboard ramp and it is right in the public library. The parks are well secured. One of the main public libraries that stand out is the Prendergast free lib which boosts of…

Mahatma Gandhi, Indian nationalist, and the man credited with liberating India from British rule led a campaign of non-violent, civil disobedience that made the continued stay in the country by the British colonizers politically and morally untenable. Imprisoned by the British for fomenting unrest, Gandhi confronted the colonizers’ force of arms with the power of his ideas, and the rightness of his cause, and by his act of courageous disobedience prevailed gloriously over the British in the end. Today, India is a vibrant democracy of 1.2 billion people, free because of the disobedience of one frail, unprepossessing man, Mahatma Gandhi.…

I’m writing this paper because I failed to plan my medication properly around my work schedule. Punctuality is the characteristic of being able to complete a required task or fulfill a moral duty before or at a previously-designated time. Dependability, accountability, consistency and discipline are all crucially related to being on time. Furthermore, promptness also shows that the individual Sailor aims high and has their priorities straight. However, being where one needs to be at the appointed time will always be one of the most important aspects of being a Sailor. Tardiness I a great detriment for the command and a work center let alone a small detachment of personnel. When an individual is absent for whatever period of time it puts the work center or detachment at a deficient for the not only the loss of manpower but also especially if there is a need for an individual’s qualifications of skill at with certain tasks or events. This loss can have unknown consequences in the form of not being able to complete a mission or vital event which can lead to anything from personal embarrassment to endangering lives. Dependability is a major aspect of military bearing. Without dependability, one can neither perform properly in the workspace nor be depended upon by their coworkers, or chain of command to carry out their military duties adequately. A military member is required to be punctual, and reliable. Showing reliability is an indication to senior personnel you have the necessary skills to lead but that you also have to maturity and self-reliability to be trusted to lead. Not only if Tardiness also detracts from general well-being and military bearing. For putting a supervisor or other personnel in compromising positions it could cause problem with other in the work center. My first and foremost choice is President Barrack Obama, he had changed society in many ways. Becoming the first African American president was the biggest achievement of his life. He gave African Americans hope and a better look into the future. As an African American I feel like there a chance now that anyone. He has been elected for two terms as well as nominated for the Nobel peace prize twice. He has passed very important laws and currently working on the gun violence law. I think President Obama is doing a great job with Americas budget and getting things to normal. I think he is a great figure that should always be remembered by having him carved into Mount Rushmore. My second choice is Maya Angelou she is like a grandmother to my generation. She has made wonderful contributions to society, and not just in poetry. She has given African American women something to look up to. She is not only known as being a poet but also for her struggle and triumph of what she’s been through. She still is contributing to our society with her poetry that’s being read in schools all around the country. My third choice is Operah Winfery, she has contributed so much in today’s society.
