This story is set in modern times at a boarding school in Alabama. Miles loves to learn about the last words of famous people. One famous poet talked about the "Great Perhaps" and this is what Miles was going to seek at Culver Creek. His roommate Chip Martin introduced him to who would be his best friends at Culver Creek. Miles also fell in love with one girl named Alaska Young. They taught him how to not also live on the safe side and how to have fun. He experienced things he probably never would have if he wouldn’t have moved to Culver Creek. One terrible accident completely changed Miles. Him and Chip helped Alaska off campus one night when she said she had to go. The next day they were told Alaska was killed in a car accident while she was driving while drunk. They tried to figure out for weeks what happened to Alaska and then they realized one day she was trying to get to her mom. The internal conflict of this story is how Miles was in love with Alaska. The conflict was resolved when Alaska died and Miles realized he would never get to be with
