Summary:
Miles Halter is tired of his boring, foreseen life in Florida. He leaves his home to attend his junior year at Culver Creek Boarding School in Alabama. His father went to this school so he’s heard quite a bit about how things work. When he gets there the first thing he noticed was that the rooms did not have air condition. The Colonel and Miles buy cigarettes from Alaska and smoke them secretly. Pudge stayed on campus for thanksgiving break to try to hook up with Alaska. He only ended up missing home and thinking about what he would be doing if he was in Florida. The Colonel, Alaska and some other friends pulled a prank on the Eagle and the Weekday Warriors. While they were hiding from them they all found out the Alaska’s mom died when she was eight of an aneurysm. She watched her mom die and still feels guilty that she hadn’t done anything to help her. They were all hanging out in Alaska’s room, drinking to celebrate their victorious prank they pulled on the Weekday Warriors. The phone rang and it was Alaska’s boyfriend calling because it was their anniversary. The call ended in a terrible fight and she leaves
