Looking For Alaska By John Green

In the novel Looking for Alaska by John Green the main character, Miles, believes in a “great perhaps” which he learned from a man named Rabelais in his last words. After going off to a boarding school named Culver Creek and meeting a girl named Alaska whom he tells about his love for last words he learns the last words of Simón Bolívar which were about a labyrinth of suffering. Being someone who faced suffering during moments like when only two people showed up to his going away party, he threw up on a girl he liked, and when he lost the girl he thought was the love of his life Miles had to believe in a great perhaps. From the very beginning of this book Miles had problems. When his parents decided to invite all his school friends to a going away party before Miles had to go off for school he knew that no one would show up. He wasn't right about no one showing up but the two people who did show up were nothing less than a disappointment. This had an impact on his parents because they felt bad for their son and were also surprised when they realized he wasn't really popular. The going away party was to make him feel good but it did the exact opposite which motivated him to leave to search for a great perhaps and a life that was different.
Quickly after moving in classmates of his named the “Weekend Warriors” pulled a prank on him where he could've drowned and died. His roommate, known as the Colonel, helped him in fixing that situation. Things begin to seem like they’re getting better because through his friends who renamed him ”pudge” he met a girl named Lara. Lara was a pretty girl who was interested in Miles and he liked her back. While hanging out with Lara Miles ending up throwing up on her and ruining the date. Even the simplest thing brought Miles suffering. He couldn't even go on a date
