Absenteeism, i.e. not showing up for work, has been the subject of much research to date. In contrast, presenteeism, defined as showing up for work when one is ill has only recieved interest in recent years, with research suggesting that it might cause more aggregate productivity loss than absenteeism. Consequences of chronic presenteeism may include effects on downstream health status, job…
In the scenario above, the automatic response of most individuals is to stress out over loosing your job, expecially if this is the only income your family depends on. The first coping strategy I would use would be optimism, keeping firm belief that the loss of my job was based on layoffs and not personal ability or inadequacy, I would consider this as a time of reflection and possible positive change. I would reach out for social support, in my family friends and government, I would ensure I kept my body well fueled and ensure I use relaxation skills to keep calm cool and collected. I would work hard to build my psychological hardiness, and commit to finding a new job and control my abaility to find another.…

Summary: Martin Luther King Jr.’s “The Ways of Meeting Oppressions”, clearly states his beliefs on how African American’s should rise against oppression in the South. Mr. King believed that people could become so overcome with oppression that they give up fighting their oppressor. He did not believe that giving in to oppression was the answer to solving civil rights issues in the south. King also believed physical violence was not the answer either, stating “Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral” in paragraph 4 of his writing. King believed that non-violent resistance was the way to fight for justice. By using non-violent resistance as a way to fight oppression, King believed it would be possible for African Americans to remain living in the South as they fought for their rights.…

they will find another job or another way of earning their living, the cycle of life doesn’t stop when you become unemployed ! and if you asked them would they prefer losing their jobs temporary or losing their lives forever? Am pretty sure they won’t chose the second alternative. The company already thought about its worker’s lives as their primary concern and didn’t take the second choice, so the least thing is to think about their existence and to do what’s in their best interest.…
Not enough time, not enough money, and not enough sleep. It’s a stupid cycle that repeats itself over and over again. This is how I feel about my dead end job. I spent 5 long years at Costco and I learned a lot about myself, people, and about life. I believe that you can’t put a price on freedom. Freedom is defined as living life how one choses to live without any undue restraints or restrictions. We spend most of our lives too busy to have any free time, busy earning money to use on our free time, and busy not having enough time to rest after a long day of work. Working at a job I hated showed me how much I miss my Freedom to do what, I want when I want, however I want. Be with the people who I want to be with. Relax and enjoy life to the fullest. Feel like a kid again where my only worry in the world was pizza or hamburgers for lunch. Unfortunately unlike most people in life, I’m not rich let alone anywhere near it. I’m just an average person trying to make a fairytale dream come true and live happily ever after. Deep down inside I wanted to leave my job but I kept hearing the same things from people, friends, family, and myself. It’s hard to find a good paying job now days. You should stay don’t quit do you know how many people wish they had your job? I need the medical benefits just in case something happen to me. This is why I stayed at my job which allowed me to reflect on my life. You’re only young once and the next time you can enjoy freedom is when you retire. So I decided to make a leap of fate and as of june 9th 2011 which is my 26th birthday HINT HINT I decided to retire from Costco because quitting is for losers. I believe that you should enjoy freedom the best you can. Do what makes you happy and not worry about what others think. You have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to…

As a society we view our jobs as a way to make money to support our lives and our families. What is meant for many of us are is that we have jobs as a basis for financial support. For others jobs can provide personal value and a sense of accomplishment. In actuality, we all need to work to pay our bills, earn money to eat, and raise a family, fairly textbook for most of us. However, there are a select few individuals who actually get to do what they love and get paid for it. These opportunities are rare at best for most of us. Many are in support of those that have a job and love doing what is needed. In some cases it is a reward…

It has come down to people these days wanting to watch a movie over reading a book. For me it’s the glory, action, and drama of a real live movie that rills me into watching a movie over reading. Movies deliver the images and sounds directly; the content and the scene can be shown faithfully. To illustrate that this is true I created my own survey. I posted a status on Facebook saying reading a book and having to create the theme in your head or watch a movie and know exactly what is going on. The results were as expected nine out of twelve people answered that watching a movie creates a better understanding of what’s going on than in books. The human society are much more auditory and visual learners, which means they are not good at trying to figure things out in written words. For example, my college success teacher gave the class a test to take to see what our learning style was and ninety-five percent of the class were auditory or visual learners. This shows that watching a movie is helpful to some people who learn in different ways. Watching a movie allows one to multi-task and when reading a book one must concentrate on the book the whole time. For instance, when watching a movie you can sit down with a big bowl of popcorn and just keep on going as the movies goes along. When someone tries to read and eat popcorn they lose their page, their part, and it makes them start all over again. Where with a movie it allows you to stay connected and still be able to know what is going on in the movie. Movies have enabled a lot of people to learn and enjoy without having to read a book that will take weeks just to get it over with. Movies are the new books in this…
Job loss has been going on for many years. It always goes on in the whole world, but for the past years since the stock market crashed in 08; jobs lost has been at the highest it has been in many years. With this about 7.9 million people lost their jobs all together. The nation and the states have their own job loss presents. This helps determine if the state and/or the nation is making progress getting jobs back.…
When a friend of mine lost their job, he and his wife didn't sit around and worry. Instead, they appreciated the moment and stayed present. They saw the opportunity that the job loss created for a better job in the future. And, they took a lot of action on making connections with others, looking for opportunities, and going after those opportunities. They worked as a team (another reason opening yourself up to others will make you happy), and they came out of the situation with a better job for him and no wasted time worrying and stressing about things.…
