Louis-Hector Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique
Symphonie Fantastique is a breathtaking, programmatic piece composed by Louis-Hector Berlioz. Berlioz was a French Romantic composer in the nineteenth century with Symphonie Fantastique as his most famous piece. Through all five movements, Berlioz lays out an extravagant story of his life while attempting to attract Harriet Smithson, an Irish actress that he is more or less obsessed with. Berlioz’s dramatic personality, insane state of mind and his intense perfectionism is shown throughout Symphonie Fantastique, especially in the fourth movement. Through this movement, he dreams that he has murdered his beloved and been condemned to die.
