Love Actually
What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the movie's R rating comes from some very strong language, sexual references and sexual situations, including prostitutes and adultery, and humorous nudity. A character's history of sex, drugs, and rock and roll is played for humor. There are some tense and sad scenes. Some audience members may object to the portrayal of the American President (Billy Bob Thornton) as a crude bully. One of the movie's many strengths is its matter-of-fact portrayal of loving inter-racial friendship and romance.

The interwoven stories of LOVE ACTUALLY all take place in the weeks before Christmas. They include a Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who is drawn to the outspoken girl who delivers his tea, an 11-year old (Thomas Sangster) who wants to attract the attention of the coolest girl in school, a man in love with his best friend's new bride, a waiter who is sure that all his dreams of romance will come true if he goes to America, a thoroughly married man (Alan Rickman) whose flirtatious secretary is making him wonder how thoroughly married he is, a rock star (Bill Nighy) angling for a comeback with a cheesy Christmas single, a heartbroken writer (Colin Firth) who can't stop thinking about the woman who cleans his house, even though they don't understand each other's languages, and a couple who meet at work as movie stand-ins assigned to increasingly (and hilariously) more intimate poses. Is it any good?

Love Actually is as stuffed with goodies as the Christmas stockings for those at the very top of Santa's "nice" list -- and it is just as entertaining, too. Richard Curtis, who wrote Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill for the first time directs his own screenplay with heart and style. It helps, of course, that he has a

Some characters claim their love to be true for each other, for others this is not the case. The reason love is such a major theme is that it is what sparks the interesting events in the book. Mean Girls, written by Tina Fey and directed by Mark Waters, takes its viewers through high school from the perspective of Cady Heron, a young girl who never known what “high school” genuinely meant. Upon arrival, she makes friends with Janis and Damian, who were in the stereotypical “unpopular” crowd. They warn her to stay away from “The Plastics”, an exclusive clique that includes three drama-filled girls who are superficial, spiteful, and have vicious attitudes that obtain their power and fame from beauty and glamour. However, “The Plastics” ask Cady to join them. Cady, Janis, and Damian together plot against the leader of The Plastics, Regina George, the most monstrous of them all. In reality, the more time Cady spends with The Plastics, the more she starts to actually become one. The Plastics themselves show how monstrous qualities are formed in celebrity culture, while the use of Cady is the perfect example of how culture builds up celebrities to break them back down. The Plastics took Cady, someone who was naïve and candid, and turned her into something she is not through the manipulation of their own standards and rules. Celebrity culture heavily relies on qualities of manipulation. This was done through thru burn book, etc…

"The book that helps you the most is the one that makes you think the most, and expands your knowledge of life and human nature." I am in total agreement with this statement. I believe that that the best books are the ones that expand your mind and teach you about the facts of life. The quote portrays that books are only significant if they have made you think. The book I read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton supports this statement in many aspects. The book depicts a society where two dominant, opposing gangs prevail in a town that just isn't big enough for the both of them. The main character, Ponyboy, his brothers, and friends are part of a gang known as the "greasers", due to their poor appearance and their greasy hair. The antagonist gang is known as the "socs", a vicious gang of rich kids whose idea of a good time is beating up greasers like Ponyboy.…

True love is the film The Princess Bride’s core, with cinematography and high adventure revolving and supporting it. True love is very different from just love. Inigo Montoya loved his father dearly, going so far as to practice fencing since eleven years of age, just to avenge his father and kill the six fingered man that slaughtered the man he loved. The love Inigo felt for his father is immense, but it originated because his father had also loved him as a son and heir. With Westley and Buttercup’s relationship however, is a state of true love. Westley has been with Buttercup for many years; their love grew and strengthened with time. Added to the circumstance of the adventures Westley had gone through to ensure they would live happily ever after in the end, with the fight and the duel with Fessick, Vizzini and Inigo; through the journey in the Fire Swamp, along with the siege of the Humperdink castle, all of this proved that Westley would never forget his true love and would do anything to get her back. In the film The Princess Bride, ture love is a serious factor that existed throughout the entire film text, even though true love appeared in a great many fairytales, the…

The name of the movie I have chosen is The Outsiders. The reason why I chose this movie is because it was one of my favorite movies to watch when I was in middle school. I remember in middle school that I was in a reading and writing class where the teacher provided students several books to read together as a class and The Outsiders was one of the novels. I always had an issue with reading since I was kid even today in college because I have a reading comprehension disability where I have a hard time remembering what I read as well as having trouble pronouncing words. This was such an awesome book and for the first time I was able to understand the whole story. The whole class actually enjoyed reading this book. Whenever the class finishes…

When families break down friends are important. In the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton this message is shown in many ways. Certain characters have been abandoned or disowned by their families, some characters have family members that have passed away and some don’t have any at all. Pony Boy Curtis, Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston all have experienced family breakdowns and each and every one of them has a loyal group of friends to fall back on. This shows why Friends are so important. Family isn’t who you’re related to, but who cares and is there for you when you need them.…

‘The Outsiders’ by S.E Hinton shows the challenges of teenagers in America during the 1960’s. Many of the characters in the novel are ‘heroes’ as they face their fears and become better people. Johnny was a character to remember. He overcame his own fears to save the lives of pony-boy and a group of young children. Darry was courageous due to the sacrifices and choices he made to his family. Cherry Valance will be highly remembered for all she stood up for and all she believed in. Although all these characters were heroes, there are some characters in the novel that can’t be admired. The soc’s were violent people who only thought about themselves. Their reckless behaviour led to suffering and fear.…

The author S.E.Hinton uses extreme events to make the argument that given a chance; even those labelled ‘bad’ by society can do good. In the novel The Outsiders the characters that are labelled bad greasers who are placed in challenging situations. Those situations demonstrate that people are not always what they are labelled. S.E.Hinton uses her characters and their actions to persuade us that you cannot label someone until you know them and what they have been through. The novel demonstrates that people labelled bad often do good things. It is the most trying times that really test a person’s character. Will they do the right thing or will they act selfishly and do the wrong thing? It is these actions, not society’s labels that determine if people are good.…
