2012 TEST OVERVIEW
This handout contains information about will be on your upcoming test on Red Scarf Girl. There will be a variety of items, including multiple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, vocabulary & spelling, short answers, and an essay.
In order to review your essay-writing skills, you may want to borrow a copy of Write Source 2000 (read pp.107-127) from Mr. Guy, so let him know the number of the copy you’re borrowing and bring it back on the day of the test.
Some of the questions you will recognize from the reading checks (hope you've been making corrections!), and you need to know all the vocabulary terms. Use this sheet to help you prepare. Follow its instructions carefully, and remember to relax. Study well and you will make yourself (and Chairman Guy) proud.
Test dates: Fri., 1/27 (6A/6C/6E) & Mon., 1/30 (6B/6D)
Here is what will be on the test:
1. Items from previous Reading Checks 1-7 2. Two short answer questions from the Heart of the Dragon video notes. Get them from a classmate if you missed the video! 3. All vocabulary words on the list (spelling and definition) 4. Essay (make a rough draft to bring)
a. Choose an essay prompt from the list on the handout Red Scarf Girl Essay Prompts.
b. Research your topic based on your choice of prompt. What resources do you need? The Internet? An encyclopedia? Red Scarf Girl? A biography? Your Heart of the Dragon notes from the video we watched?
1. Take notes as you do your research. What have you read that has to do with your essay prompt? Write it down.
2. When you are finished taking notes, create an outline of your essay. This will help you organize your thoughts for writing.
3. Once you've written an outline, write a rough draft of your essay. Read it again and make revisions (changes).
