Having a low turnout affects each of the parties without a doubt. Fewer voters mean fewer contributors. This also means the governance of the state of Texas is affected. Meaning there are less people out there who are belonging to a political organization, talking to others about politics, contributing money to campaigns, or simply even wearing a button on their chest or a bumper stickers on their car. All this comes right back to not participating in voting. Democrats have opposed to the recent 2010 law of having an approved voters ID to cast a ballot because they believe it is a way to further cause obstacles for the minority groups and the poor.
These low turnout rates, most importantly the low voting turnout in the young, poor and the minority groups suggest the overall more traditional opinions and viewpoints the voting population of Texas have. The fact that the older group seems to be controlling who serves this country it is showing to be more conservative.
Democratic governance in Texas has been affected due to these low election turnouts because non-voters seem to be the poor and minority groups, which means the groups that support the Democrats are causing Republican to dominate the offices. It is quite clear that if everyone voted then there would be a more fair fight for our future
