An estimated of 57.9% of eligible voters, voted last year and over 90 million didn’t vote according to our canvas article. The reality is that a lot of citizens were not excited about it at all. People didn’t …show more content…
believe we were fair represented, and I say people because I’m not eligible to vote.
The democratic party had First lady and secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
A lot though she was the strongest candidate and could see victory ahead, especially because she was the one with more experience. Many women supported her because she would it be the first woman in U.S history to be president. But things were not so easy for her, she was surrounded by numerous scandals. The dead of Vince Foster in 1993, who was found dead from a single gunshot, officials labeled as a suicide. Foster had a long friendship with Bill Clinton, he worked side by side with Hillary and become deputy of the White House counsel during the Clinton administration. He left a suicide note talking negative about the Clintons and their staff. Another famous scandal was the emails that were send, something out of the protocol. One of the most notorious was the Benghazi attack on 2012, where 4 Americans died including the then ambassador Christopher Stevens. Hillarie’s conduct was questioned because her amount of email accounts and the way she used them. But regardless of this scandals she competed very closed with her opponent Donald Trump. According to the Huffington post, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote with almost 3 million ballots over Donald …show more content…
Trump.
On the other side, the Republican party had Donald Trump, who is now our president but just like Hillary he was surrounded by scandals.
Since the beginning of his campaign he targeted people from certain ethnicities like Muslims; who he said should be banned from entering to U.S territory, this after all the terrorist attacks. Another ethnicity was Mexicans; who were labeled as rapists and drug dealers, this comment in particularly didn’t affected me much for the fact that nether me or my entire family has ever been related to none of “his labels” but it’s not so pleasant to heard that. He attacked woman, and disable people, I’m a woman and I have a disable niece, so definitely not my favorite. The reason why many people likes him is because he has high standards and citizens believe he would do the same for this country, he promised the famous wall that many candidates promis in every election year, he is a successful business man and people believe he can help the U.S get out from debt, and supposedly because he speaks the truth. Americans wanted something different and they had and have faith on
him.
I remember back in 2007 when ex-president Barack Obama was running for president a lot of people were so excited about it, even me, it was the first time in my life that I wished I had the opportunity to vote. A lot of young people were involved on his success; first time voters were so excited about Obamas presidential campaign and his most famous motto “it’s time for a change” was heard everywhere. The first African American president to get to the white house was a dream come true for a lot of people. I remember in High school we had a poll just like in real life and we voted and Obama won, and we all talked about it. People were exited, not something I notice last year. People saw Hillary as a corrupt politician and Trump as an ignorant person. I believed Americans want something fresh and somebody who will make a difference in history. Until them people would get exited again. We all know deep inside that all politicians are the same but the American people still have faith that this would change.
