In the text, "Beginning Biblical Studies," revised by Marielle Frigge; she presents a section on sin in chapter 5. Sin is addressed as rebellious, distorted, and an act of forsaking’s God’s covenant. Sin is an act of withdrawal from God’s will, as a result of the Bible which states the Lord has a plan for us. In Jeremiah 29:11-14; God’s plan is expressed for the people to call upon him, not for evil, but only good. However, in 1 Samuel 12:20-25 and 15:22-23; the Lords message is expelled out to the people to turn away from their sinful ways. For sin is rebellion, arrogance, and idolatry, which will all be rejected by God.…

During the time of Samuel, Judges ruled the people in Israel. The Israelites said to Samuel, “ You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have.” (APA, NIV, 1 Samuel 8:5) They desire a king because they thought the other nations having a man, as a leader will help them win their fight battles. Having a king would allow them to be lazy, and have someone else make all the calls and take on the burden of responsibilities they would have to deal with. The Israelites did not trust God’s judgment after the countless times he has provided for them. They wanted to be just like the other nations not knowing what God had in store for them. God being a favorable God give them what they wanted.…

When one picks up the Bible and reads the first four books of the Bible they see many similarities, but also great differences. The first three books are referred to as Synoptic Gospels; this is because they contain many of the same stories, often in similar wording and sequence. John however is much different; the details, wording, and events highlighted by John are unique. In the following paper a comparison between Matthew’s Gospel and John’s Gospel will be found.…

At one point of another we have all said or done things and then acted out the opposite, thus being a hypocrite. Hypocrisy is one of the underlying themes found in Matthew 6: 1-15. The Gospel of Matthew is a relatively easy passage to read, and according to Hauer and Young, “The Gospel of Matthew is nearly as overt as the Gospel of Mark is hidden.”[1] Matthew is organized into a fivefold pattern and two parts of the fivefold passage, “The higher Righteousness” (Mt. 3-7) and “The true Discipleship” (Mt. 8-10) will be looking into in great detail regarding Matthews Gospel. Throughout his Gospel, according to Hauer and Young, “Matthew is proclaiming the authority of Jesus as teacher and preacher, but also with giving the content of his…

In the Gospel of Luke, the phrase, “Kingdom of God”, is used quite frequently. Upon interpretation, I believe it is, in fact, a kingdom instead of a kingship. When you look at the definition of each word, a kingdom is a nation having as supreme ruler a king and/or queen. A kingship is the dignity, rank or office of a king; the state of being a king. It has been stated throughout the Bible (though more specifically mentioned in the book of Revelation) that the Kingdom of God is a place where all of His followers, who believed in Jesus Christ, will be able to live with Him and His Son.…

Having just listened to the stirring sermon based on Luke 8:22-25, I have come to a few conclusions. The pericope was not taken into account in providing correct context for the interpretation. This section is a tiny part of Jesus educating the people about himself and the life of a Christian. They experienced the miracles to highlight who he was, but they did not fully understand in the moment what historians have had the opportunity to glean from the look back. The need to keep historical and literary context was not adhered to, it appears the desire for a quick answer for the listeners was the goal. The book of Luke in its entirety is a narrative about who Jesus was and includes teachings from Jesus to the people around him.…

    Gospel Of Matthew Essay

The Gospel of Matthew was written with the intention of bridging the gap between the prophecies of the Old Testament, and their fulfillment by Jesus in the New Testament. In order to make this connection, Matthew’s Gospel takes on a specific mode. It is mainly composed of stories that relate to the teaching aspect of Jesus’ life. Matthew uses his role as an instructor to portray Jesus as a “humble and compassionate Messiah.” Matthew’s perspective is also focused; the Romans are seemingly less culpable for Jesus’ death than the Jewish leaders and people. Perhaps the writer’s intentions shine through as an effect of this focus, and it seems probable that, “[Matthew] was likely intended to shock both Jewish Christians and their Jewish neighbors…
