Lynda Barry

Lynda Barry has an amazing and strong connection to her school. Throughout the story she is talking about how meaningful it is to her and how she thinks it's the only place where she actually gets noticed. In the illustration, Barry has a big smile on her face which means she's happy and it's showing that the school is Barry's safe-place and though it's not her home, church, or anything like that, it makes her happy and she feels like she can count on the people to look out for her. Along with the big smile on her face, she is also hugging the school. This shows her affection, love, and how much she adores it. In the image when she says "I'm home", it means that she has finally found a place where she feels comfortable enough to be herself
and have a life where she stands out. During the text, Barry explains how she is nothing without her school and how it makes her who she is as a person. In the text, when she sneaks out of her house in the morning and starts to walk around, she goes to the school because she wants to get away from the craziness at her house and feels like it's the perfect place to go. Barry states, "Without it, I don't know where i would have gone that morning"(Barry 16). Just that sentence shows how much she loves her school and appreciates how much it helps her. She thinks of it as a place where she can escape and go to live her life as she wants to. Through the entire novel Barry shows how much she adores and admires how much her school helps and keeps an eye on her.
