Introduction
Tacoma Washington is a port city with an estimated population of 207, 9488. It lies on the Puget Sound, 32 miles southwest of Seattle and 31 miles northeast of the capital city Olympia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tacoma,_Washington). The median age of it’s citizens is 35.7 years old (http://www.areavibes.com/tacoma-wa/demographics/). It is estimated that 23% of residents are younger than age 18; 10.9% are between 18 and 24; 29.6% between 25 to 44; 25.3% beteen 45 to 64; and 11.3% are 65 years of age or older. It offers a variety of cardio equipment, a swimming pool, racketball courts, group classes and weights. It is conveniently located near one of the hospitals I work at, so I am able to get a work out in before going to work everyday.
The police department is in charge of keeping a safe and secure community. Officers strive to enforce laws in a fair and impartial manner. Part of their mission statement is to “preserve the peace and order in our neighborhoods and safeguarding our Constitutional guarentees”. Over the last 15 years the city has built satellite police stations next to major parks, with the intent of keeping the parks nice, cracking down on illegal behavior and limiting homeless camps.
Point Defiance Park is a unique 760-acre park that was developed in 1888 on Tacoma’s north peninusula (http://www.metroparkstacoma.org/history-point-defiance-park/). It includes natural forest, saltwater beaches, flower gardens and large green spaces. It is a popular destination for people looking to exercise. There are 23 miles of trails and excellent beaches should people want to swim. The park provides a sanctuary for people looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the urban
